So Saturday morning has been dubbed "lazy Saturday" in my house, now after about 10 years, I decided to go to the gym on Saturday mornings; my husband suddenly decides that he has to go to services at exactly the same time. I don't want to argue with god but today I calmly said to him, "I have a proposition for you; you want to go to services on Saturday mornings, and I want to go to the gym; how about if you take every other week, and I take every other other week?" So he gets into a confrontation with me! He says, "OK great, and you take the car on Mondays / Thursdays and I take it Tuesdays / Fridays. " The way I see it, I was interviewing a mother's helper the other day, there's a ton of teenagers who are looking for a job for the summer, and I don't know why I didn't think of it before, but it's a great way to get an extra hand . . . . Anyway, he got all pissed off at me that I'm hiring someone so I can go out of the house . . . He said, "You're going to pay someone to babysit so you can go to the gym?" Why yes, and so I can do to the doctor, and go for a sporadic pedicure . .. .. . I mean we only have and share one car; what do you guys think? I have a few doctors appointments, I can't take the baby with me for a thyroid sonogram etc . .. .. OK I see 2 separate problems; we have 1 car, and saturdays was up for grabs and I grabbed it ... . but during the week, I know he's going through a tough time because he got laid off, but I can't absorb any more stress and responsibilities . . . . I'm thinking while I'm typing, but we can actually take the kids with us . . . . Ok thanks for listening and letting me vent!

Sounds as if you are aiming to compromise with your offer to take turns with the car. So sad that hubby does not appear to meet you half way. Maybe his prayers at services will help. Hugs & sighs!

I hope you guys get it worked out :) Make sure you both compromise so that it's fair. If he tries to push you around, say that you two can compromise because that's only fair. Good luck!

I love the idea of "lazy Saturdays" - I'm sure you both had excellent reasons for instituting that in the beginning and perhaps you could both do with a reminder as to why you started that tradition. I don't know much about marriage so I'm not really qualified to comment on it. I do know that you seem unhappy with the relationship as it stands now and it seems you feel there is a good deal of inequality. Precious few relationships are truly equal and from my perspective, that takes a tremendous amount of commitment from both parties. Stay true to what you know is good and healthy for you and your children. My mom compromised a lot in my parents' marriage and it's taken me a good number of years to work through that experience and not allow myself to be walked on by men. But I'm doing it. I applaud you setting a shining example to your children of self-care balanced with other-care.
