divine intervention!!! Maybe someone is trying to tell you that the number on the scale should not define you?

Have you ever tried Kale chips? or any other veggie .. very thinly sliced... for kale, buy a bunch, tear it into bite size pieces, in a bowl spray 1 tablespoon of olive oil and toss kale to coat, then sprinkle on your seasoning.. sea salt, cajun spice , whatever you like. put in 400 oven for about 8 minutes, watch it and don't let it burn, as soon as it browns it will go bitter. They provide the crunch and the flavour to satisfy your cravings. I also use a mandolin to thinly slice other veggies and do the same to them.

It's not the fresh fruit! Don't let carbs from natural fruit scare you away. Your brain needs those type of carbs because that is what fuels your brain! Salt is more than likely the culprit and I can recommend Nutritional Yeast and Lemon to help wean yourself from Salt. Trust me when I say that I have dealt with this exact issue and I know how much it can effect the scale. Matter of fact I am confident that most of the "Plateaus" I face on the scale have stemmed from too much sodium. ETL suggests eating more salad, it satiates the appetite and costs you very few calories. Try making a Tomato Lemon style Salad Dressing to keep it lower calories. Fresh raw fruits and vegetables are your friends whether you are trying to loose weight or maintain your current weight. Weigh day is tomorrow so we will see if I come off my plateau, if not I will continue to pursue my good eating habits and wait for my body to adjust... Hang in there Tulip!!

Carbs will do it ... if you add a lot of salt (sodium) which will retain water or you add oils and fats as dressings. One tablespoon of oil adds 120 calories to your count. As John Walker says; the human body is a 'machine' and regulated by what goes in and how much is burned. If you increase calories without increasing activity there will be weight gain and if you lower calories without exercise you can experience weight loss. To him 'dieting' is an engineering problem, one that he became keenly aware of when he was placed on the cover of Forbes. He said his big pudgy face made him realize that if he didn't change his ways he was going to pass away at an early age, a very wealthy young age, but dead just the same. His story and website: https://www.fourmilab.ch (he moved to Switzerland decades past, but has adhered to his solution.)

thanks for all the support and suggestions! i have low blood pressure & part time hypoglycemic and some sort of insulin resistance situation; i tend to lean on salt when i'm feeling low, and maybe the sudden 2 fruits and no protein with it sent me into a sugar crash . . . . . who knows....? any other thoughts? mardee what on earth is nutritional yeast? can you tell me a brand & i will try it!

Hey Oneauta, Thanks for the link, It really is that simple. Kinda dry but the basic idea helps reiterate what we really need to be doing... Here is the exact link Tulip... http://www.fourmilab.ch/hackdiet/

I get hungry at night, after 8pm. I can lose the entire day's efforts with my response to those cravings, and recently have started saving some points to have a bowl of cereal (but that's carbs) or a piece of fruit (the good kind of carbs but less satisfying). Still working on this one.

A suggestion for what it is worth; Just before Christmas I read a book called "The Power of Habit - Why We Do What We Do." It was a good read, but the point is our habits are a part of us and we perform them without even thinking about them. Driving is a great example. At first it was hard, but now that it is habit you do it without even thinking about it. You need to go, you drive, and you get there. Erwin's after 8 PM "hunger" and Tulip's craving for chips is more about habit than a physical need for food or a specific kind of food. So change the habit. Science says habits stay with you for life and there are 3 parts to them; the impulse, the action, and the pay off. Or - I want chips, I eat chips, I enjoyed chips. So find something to replace the chips that you can crave that you like, or will easily grow to like. In our case I bought my wife a Keurig coffee maker for Christmas. Now we drink quite a bit of coffee. And as it happens, coffee is very low in calories if you can skip the adds like heavy cream, tons of sugar, whipped cream, or high cal flavorings. Now coffee with a small amount of sugar has replaced our dash to the pantry to find the chips, nuts, or other high cal - high fat food. Same habit, just a different action and ultimately a different result! And wow do we crave that coffee now! It took my wife about two weeks to become a rabid coffee lover, where before she never liked it at all. My 2 cents

Tulipgirl6, I dont mean this in a hurtful way, but your food choices are all over the place. Fruits are high in sugars and carbs. Your eating salt makes you retain water. Educate yourself on a variety of diets, pick one and stick to it. I think your results will be worth the effort. If I can help in any way please let me know. Once again this was said in a spirit of wanting to help you. This journey towards better health should be one of joy, not frustration.

Hey Hoffner; no offense taken; I don't record everything in the food log so It probably looks very off, while I am following a plan, I think one of the main reasons why it's been working is because I eat a ton a ton of raw veggies. Really a lot of veggies. My problem with salt also lies in the fact that for years I was told that my salt cravings have to do with very low blood pressure and to just go ahead and have a salty snack or put some salt on it when I'm feeling that low . . .. anyway, I am following a basic plan, nothing too revolutionary or trendy and I will put the gist of it down one of these days. . . . It's been much better but once in a while I get hypoglycemic or a sugar spike . . . . the fruits that day were part of a smoothie . .. . . what kind of "diet" are you following? I love to find out about what different people are doing and reading about it . . . .
