DairyKing's Journal, 10 July 2012

Well, it's hard to believe that it's Tuesday already. It's even harder to believe that I haven't run since Thursday! What the heck! Truth is, my calves have been feeling like they have already run a marathon. I don't know if it was because I occasionally kicked it up on my 1-mile repeats on Thursday, or if it was due to the long time in the saddle on the motorcyle on Saturday, perhaps heat cramps? I don't know what the heck those are, but it's just as good an excuse as any other.

Thank goodness for the relief from the heat wave. Who'd have thunk that the high 80's would feel so cool? Took advantage of the cooler temps to rummage through some of the stuff I haven't accessed since we moved into the schoolhouse. Found my photographers bag that I had been looking for, these last few weeks. It has my lenses, filters and light meters for my vintage Nikon film cameras. I've been wanting to get back into photography for a while - especially with black and white film. I really like my Canon digital Powershot camera for snapshots, but there is just something I really enjoy about having complete manual control over exposures, with the old film cameras. I'm just a diehard do-it-your-selfer, right down to the bone!

I can't hardly believe that DW has been so patiently waiting for me to finish building the kitchen cabinets. When we bought the schoolhouse, I insisted on building the kitchen myself, from scatch. I've only built one wall of base cabinets, and constructed the wall for an appliance
counter, and I think they look great; but I should have been done long ago. In all honesty, there has been a lot of interruptions, but I think I still could have gotten the job done if I had really put my mind to it. I've got a few things I need to take care of in the meantime: I've got to finish the outside play area, finish welding up the universal gym, assemble the Endless Pool, and get up in the attic and wire for the new kitchen and foyer lights and fans (though it is still too hot to work up in the attic).

Well, there's only one thing I can say about my weight loss progress: it sucks! I've been doing great during the week, sometimes seeing a 2 to 2.5 pound loss, only to blow it on the weekends. I've just got to get my (as Sk1nny would say) arse in gear. I'm determined to not go to the next notch on my belt, but I'm afraid if I don't do something pretty soon, I'm going to be pulling the belt so tight, I am going to develop a bust and a booty.

Toodles!

Sorry about the gain but maybe the cooler weather will help. Plus, you should be so busy you won't have time to eat - LOL.

I think it's good that you're giving your body a little break from running - I know you'll get back into it soon.. Re: your camera, I was just considering buying a Canon EF 24-105mm f/4 L IS USM Lens for my Rebel.. but it's being sold for $800, which is actually a great deal considering how much it usually goes for, but I don't think I can justify the cost.. I want to take a class to learn about more of the manual settings of my camera - if only you could teach me! :) Sounds like you are keeping yourself plenty busy with all of your schoolhouse projects!! As far as your weight loss goes, at least you 'only' have to get your weekends in check since you are doing fine during the week!! Some people can't even get the weekdays under control! :)

Hey, Erika! Yes, that lens commands a hefty price. There are lenses made by other manufacturers like Vivitar/Olympus that cost a whole lot less, and can be picked up for $50 to $150 on eBay, that will work with your camera. You have to use an M42-EOS adapter that adapts to an EF lense. But, you should check with the local camera shop to see what the trade-off is. Some of these new adapters trick the Rebel into thinking it has an EF lense on it when it doesn't. Just a thought, in case it's just that zoom range you need, and you don't really care as long as it's a quality lens that fits your Canon.

Wow how many projects do you like to take on at once?? Sounds like those things are keeping you very busy and maybe they are taking some focus from your weight loss... Maybe if you knock out a few of the projects you will have more time to do food prep/planning and see an improvement in your weight loss. I have a feeling you'd just start some new projects though lol. Enjoy the cool temps!
