Stalls are so incredibly fun, aren't they?
Been on-plan since 1/1/2014, but the last three months has seen minimal weight loss -- this means something needs tweaking, which makes sense after losing nearly 30 pounds since I started. That's not an insignificant amount of weight.
My body has historically liked to sit in the 260-range; somewhere in there I believe is my "set point" that I've always had to work to get past. I also feel that my body is INCREDIBLY carbohydrate-sensitive -- I'm starting to feel that a mere 25-30 carbs a day is maintenance-level intake for me. Like, I'm still in dietary ketosis at that level, but things are evening-out elsewhere in the equation that causes the scale to just hold steady.
(I have to take a moment here, though, to stress that weight loss isn't my only criteria for progress. While a lower number on the scale is always nice, there are quite a few "non-scale victories" I'm enjoying by eating this way, a normalized period being one. Also, I no longer find myself the victim of the overwhelming need to crash for a nap after a meal since I've kept my carbs very low. I'm more alert and far less moody/angry. Even the severe depression that's wreaked havoc with my life up til the beginning of this year appears to have been tamped-down dramatically. I'm not on AD meds and this is easily the most stable and happy I've felt in decades, even with all the stuff that's out of sorts still in my life.
Additionally, months ago my physical cravings for sugary and starchy foods (sweets and breads/pastas/etc.) went away, and now I'm pleased to note that my mental cravings for sugars/starches have almost entirely subsided. You know that crazed feeling one gets out of the blue for pizza or ice cream or chocolate (or [fill in the blank with your favorite junk food]? Like, you NEED that food item or you go insane? That's the craving I'm talking about -- I don't get that anymore, and that has EVERYTHING to do with cutting out sugar and starch entirely and permanently from my diet. I've basically Betty-Forded myself off my carbohydrate addiction and I am reaping all the health benefits of doing so.)
IN ANY CASE, I'm going to dial-down my carb intake from a modest 20-30 back down to 10-15 and really up my fat intake while simultaneously moving my caloric intake allowance from 1800 to 1500. I'm NOT a believer in that old "wisdom" that a calorie is a calorie is a calorie (because it just ain't -- we're biological beings far more complex than such a dumbed-down theory allows for), but we'll see what effect less food in the same macronutrient ratios (very low carb/high fat/moderate protein) will have on my situation.
I have thirty more pounds to lose before the end of the year and it's time my body gets the message that lounging around the 260s just isn't acceptable.
Onward!
