08 February 2011

Woke up this morning at 6am...*ugh*...I was up before the sun was! This is not the norm around here! Usually, I head to bed between 11:30pm and midnight and wake up around 8:30ish. But today was the big subscription launch at the Princess of Wales, so I had to be there, bright-eyed and bushy-tailed.

*On a little side note, for any theatre peeps in/around Toronto, the subscription includes:
The Railway Children
Chess - The Musical
Private Lives
Mary Poppins - The Musical
The Blue Dragon
War Horse
Hair

Plus - Ghost Stories
2 Pianos/4 Hands
Good Mourning, Mrs. Brown
Women Fully Clothed

A fun morning...when all was said and done, but I feel like I've been running on fumes for most of the afternoon, despite having had a little snack around 9am and going out for brunch at 1:30pm. *meh*

Maybe what I really need is a good night of proper sleep!

07 February 2011

I got in my workout, did my laundry and made it to the grocery store! It just felt like the kind of day where I could do anything! *bwah ha ha*

Once all the little errands were run and I was nicely finished my workout, I headed into the kitchen for a little something, something. There on the counter were three very black, very ripe bananas. So I did what any girl with an afternoon to kill and some over-ripe bananas would do - I made banana bread! But it didn't stop there! In the spirit of Valentine's Day, I also made a lemon raspberry loaf.

Now, banana bread I make quite often. (Maybe I should stop buying so many bananas...but if I don't buy a lot, Ian eats the lot and there are none for me...a few extra, and there I am, baking again!) It's delicious and soft...with walnuts and this particular batch has peanut butter chips in it. (Mmmmm....peanut butter and banana!) But I had never made the lemon raspberry loaf before. The recipe was dead simple - flour, sugar, baking soda and baking powder, low-fat lemon yogurt, vegetable oil, egg and egg whites, raspberries. I was a bit concerned because it's supposed to bake twice as long as my banana bread, but the loaf isn't really that much bigger. Well, it's baking in the oven right now...and it should be done in the next fifteen or so minutes. (Thankfully I set the kitchen timer so I don't have to worry about when to take it out.)

I think Monday might become baking day...trying out recipes that I haven't made before. Usually I don't bake because it requires such precise measurements - unlike cooking, where I can add a pinch of this or a dash of that and substitute to my heart's content without really messing up the final result. But my last few attempts at baking have turned out pretty good - cranberry scones (though I think I'll use a smidge less buttermilk next time - my dough was a little *too* sticky) and oatmeal peanut butter cookies.

Well...this should be interesting!

Monday I start Phase Two of P90X - Lean. Day One is Core Synergistics...and I DO NOT like this day AT ALL! Mostly because my core is not super strong and I hate push-ups and there are lots and lots of push-ups in this particular workout. But I will persevere! Damn it! *grr*

Monday is also groceries and laundry and general housework/tidy up.

Tuesday will be Cardio X and an early morning jaunt out to my work. The new 2011/2012 Mirvish subscription season is being launched with much hoopla at the Princess of Wales theatre and I get to go and hand out goody bags to patrons that show up for the festivities. That, and I'll get to see what shows are scheduled to make their way into Toronto this fall. We're hoping for Mary Poppins, War Horse, The Railway Children and Private Lives. And maybe a couple of others.

Wednesday is Chest, Shoulders and Triceps - a workout that wasn't in Phase One, so this should be interesting...especially since I am NOT a fan of push-ups...*sigh*...

I think I might end up being a bit under my RDI most days this coming week because Ian has picked up extra hours at his work, so he won't be home having dinner with me most nights. This means I don't have to whip up anything fancy...I can make myself soup, sandwich, salad...whatever...something light...tuna maybe...because I love tuna and he does not.

Hoping I can get out to my favourite sushi restaurant in the next week or so...I miss sushi...

04 February 2011

It's been an uneventful day here at home.

I got in my hour of cardio, but didn't want to go out for any reason. I also didn't feel much like playing any video games. I haven't got anything new from the library to read either, and didn't feel like re-reading any of my old favourites. I had absolutely no idea what to do with myself!

Then I starting thumbing through my cookbooks, trying to figure out what I could make for dinner. I saw all these great recipes for low-fat treats. So, what did I do? Whipped out all my mixing bowls and measuring spoons and got to work!

Well, there you go...boredom can lead to baking, so beware!!! I finished baking a batch of cranberry orange scones. I wasn't too sure about them as I was getting ready to put them in the oven. The dough was crazy super sticky. But they don't taste disgusting. They don't really taste like scones to me, but the boyfriend was impressed. Then I mixed up a batch of peanut butter oatmeal cookies. The recipe says it makes 30 cookies, but I think I roll my little dough balls a bit smaller than the recipe calls for because I ended up with an extra six. Oh well...

And I don't think I need to be eating more calories than my RDI. 1800 seems pretty good. My problem will be staying just under or just over. And I think if I move just a little more, I should start seeing the scale move in that downward direction again. (I do find it strange that the number hasn't budged in a week or two. And my measurements for this week are exactly the same as last week's. So I have to see what happens if I can keep just under my calories for the rest of the week and I might start seeing more changes when I start Phase Two of my P90X challenge.)
