Do those scales really work? I’d be afraid to see the results 😝

don't put that much into these readings!!! I've had my muscle mass go up and down by about 8 pounds in a few days on my scale. That's impossible! I got a DEXA scan and resting metabolic rate test. it was really helpful. THOUGH, we all know we always need more muscle!

what jenjabba said those scales are not accurate

Totally agree withe jen and OTB.

I have one of the newer models and it is very accurate. I can see where I have been and where I am going and how much I have improved my health. Love the numbers.

Lambiepi its pretty accurate with what both my physical therapist and my personal doctor use to track muscle mass, fat etc.

Jenjabba i agree a dexa is probably the gold standard

OTB i think a lot of them are not accurate. This is the consumer version of what the professionals use and it matches pretty closely sadly. Im more or less watching the trend of adding/losing muscle mass vs fat mass. I think the trend info is helpful

Thanks Morticia for your thoughts🥰

Golfgirl60 this thing was kind of horribly expensive but the brand is pretty reputable and aligns with my health professionals equipment which is the commercial version of the same brand (but cost 10x more so i went with smaller consumer version)

Looking at this, I can't tell what needs to be different. Do you have a specific goal in mind?

I'm going to be watching your posts on this. I'm very interested and I get frustrated because I cannot use these types of scales due to my pacemaker. Just curious, does yours use magnets?

I reccomend a book called "Jim Stoppani's Muscle and Strength encyclopedia". The nutrition chapter gives the user great insight on how to set up macros for specific goals. I know use a macro goal rather than a calorie goal setup. I am putting on muscle mass and taking off body fat

Just for fun, try an experiment: if you usually weigh after going to the bathroom in the morning, try one day weighing before you go to the bathroom, then again after, and see the %change in body fat and muscle. That’ll give you some potentially interesting data. If the muscle and fat numbers change a lot just by using the toilet, then I wouldn’t take the scale too seriously. I tried that with mine and had to laugh because it thought that human waste is muscle 🙃 The only way I can truly tell I’m building muscle is that my waist is the same size at a higher body weight as it used to be at a lower body weight. That and the mirror 🙂

Ps, i have the Withings right after I got my DEXA and it was very close. You did get the $$ one. Enjoy it! It will at least give ya a close ballpark range and show you if you're going in the right direction! Just don't rely on it for daily measurements like we do our weight.

Sherryeb-the muscle mass is barely barely in the average zone. And i want to add muscle, which is hard to do as i dont want to add pounds to my body. More muscle = stronger body = better health = more calories😃. I would like to somehow exchange 5 pounds of the limited fat i have for muscle. It’s a bit tricky

Diana1234 i dont know if it uses magnets? It is the INBODY brand if you want to do some research on it? I chose this as it is what both my physician and physical therapist (2 different businesses not same owner) use. Im using it to more or less watch the trend not taking is absolutely gospel.

Jbies3-thank you for the suggestion!

Ddrudd-do you mean liquid or solid waste in the bathroom? Yes, serious question silly as it looks in print. My waist is bigger now than when i was 145-150 in my 30’s and 40’s by about 3 and sometimes 4”. Was always a 24-25” waist back then and now am 27 and sometimes 28” and cannot for the life of me figure out why. I have no fat nor excess skin there so it’s kind of baffling. Although back then my hips were 38 and now are 34-35. But i get your point.

Jenjabba, i use it for daily weight and once every week or two take the measurements. I have the app so i can watch the trend.
