Scale hasnt' gone up!! I see all these posts about how someone had a bad day and is now up a few pounds. Considering that each pound is 3500 calories, I would have to eat an extra 3500 calories in my day to gain one pound. Scale moves up two pounds, that's 7,000 extra calories eaten before weigh-ins. Now... waterweight aside. Considering that I figured I went WAY overboard with what I ate this weekend.. Cannoli, pizza, ice cream, etc etc... but I managed to still stayed close to my caloric intake with a deficit or at least maintenance stats.. so the scale didn't go up. I've been on a 2.6 pound average weekly drop, this week, only one pound.. I'm cool with that... I didn't have a bad day. I just ate...

I'm good when I lose a pound a week because it means I'm closer to my goal.

I'm happy with a pound.. guess I've just been spoiled with the larger drops. My 'milestone' list actually was made considering one pound per week drop. So I'm still ahead of schedule... hopefully stays that way. I did have one week where I only lost 0.8.. still a loss... glass is half full :P

Lucky you. When I eat like that I can show anywhere from a 12-15 lb gain in one week. If I start bingeing on carbs my body saves every single calorie. And thus, when I weigh in later, my huge gain this week will not be a surprise to me since I have eaten every carb I could get my hands on since the election :( I'll just start over and try better next time.

12 - 15 gain in one week... so you ate 42,000 calories more than your daily needs. So you're eating over 6,000 calories a day? I ate like that but still stayed relatively within my calories. You HAVE to count calories. Each pound is 3500 calories. Find out what your body needs and uses, math it out, then cut a small percentage out try to keep it under.... I'm not on 'low carb' but I don't do Pasta, Breads, Rice, etc except on rare occasion because theyre' so hefty and it's when I go over calories...

There is no way that much is water weight...

Calories in, calories out.

I ate less than 1000 calories yesterday and was up a pound and a half this morning! I know it can't have been because of what I ate due to the formula you outlined in your post. So what the heck???? Our bodies continue to mystify and confuse me. *sigh*

It actually is that simple.. How much of what we eat, determines what we weigh... There may be occasions when water, bloating, rare health conditions, etc has an effect.. but ultimately... food..

Hey Pickles, water weight comes and goes in a dramatic fashion. I can move the scale easily 5 pounds in a day, 3 pounds in an hour and a half (sweat and respiration) and 9 or 10 pounds in two days if I go from bloated to dehydrated. MMA fighters and boxers do even more extreme "water" weight loss fluctuations to "make weight". Also, fully fasted we can only lose about a half pound to 2/3 pound of fat a day, with most of it leaving our body through respiration of CO2 and elimination of H20. As well, a large intake of carbs and/or salt will really encourage the body to retain water in depleted fat cells and all tissue.

There is also a very informative, old forum post that touches on how the scale and water weight interact; "Why the Scales Can lie". I will try and find it to give it a bump, as it is well worth the read. Pickles, hope you have a great fat loss week ahead!!
