Sorry you are not having a good day. I might get stoned for saying this, but you could skip the gym. Get some exercise videos or buy some cheap exercise gadgets (to break the monotony), go for walks, etc. just until your schedule turns around. It never hurts to change up your routine.

I'm an almost 50 mom and I get how you feel. When I go to the gym, I put in my iPod and take off my glasses and do my own thing in my own world. I usually feel better after a workout but sometimes it's torture making myself go. I can get pretty cranky myself, lol.

A weight bench, barbell, and some dumbbells makes working out at home a breeze. I really want to go to the gym early in the mornings like I did when I was in college, but that's not possible with my three year old. I lift at home, do martial arts, yoga, and tai chi, it's a pretty good workout, worth considering. :)

Redgirl1974 - I never been in one (a gym)... so you are far more courageous than me and therefore free to be cranky sometimes!

see Phil, I thought of that too. i have a great space on my patio for a gym, I would just need to buy everything which would take time.. so for now im a hostage.. I wont quit.I cant. Ill just suck it up and figure it out.. I used to work out at night before only it wasnt this crowded.. Imma skip monday next week and make it a cardio day here at the complex gym where i live ( its too small for a real work out) and then start at big gym Tues- Friday bc I noticed it thins out closer and closer it gets to Friday.

I can't afford a gym so I try to walk everywhere as muchg as I can. It also depends on if you live in a walking friendly area. One of my friends lives by a highway, so not much walking for her.

Dont focus on who else is that the gym. Put on some headphones with music that pumps you up and focus on you. I may be in my 20s but there are many better in shape people at my gym and they don't discourage me anymore. We all are on our own journey. Who care's about what others think or do. Just do you!

Check Goodwill and other resale shops for weights and equipment, garage sales, and Thrifty Nickel can be a good resource, too. There's a local publication called The East Texas Peddler that usually has weights and exercise equipment among the other classified ads, it's well worth buying your own equipment to not have to put up with the post-adolescents.

The YMCA here just did an open house with discounted fees if you signed up that night. Might be worth checking if your local one has anything like that coming up if you prefer to work out away from home. You can also get other benefits from the Y that make it more cost-efficient -- ours offers free kids activities and babysitting while parents work out. No idea if your child/children is/are the right age for that, but my younger daughter really loved going to that when she was around 6 or 7, and my older daughter did free tween workout nights back in middle school.

Have my headphones on, and that's it....if I see someone new or about to hurt themselves, i'll offer to tweak their form. Other than that...so long as people re-rack their weights and don't sit on equipment texting, i don't even see you.

MJ,some of them park themselves on machines while texting or visiting. I finally was just like " you done ?" or " can I work in " bc I was tired of waiting.. Great attitude tho.. I just need to tune in and tune em out.. its just a few weeks.. and Im annoyed Im letting it bother me so much .. its just that the gym is my place.. where Im not mom or wife or whatever , but just me, free to run and sing in my head LOL.. its where I burn all the days stress off and start a fresh new clean slate.. and I guess that why it bothers me so much that my gym is polluted with posers and fakes while the rest of us are struggling to loose a pound or two..

Ok, today is my first day. I am 49 years old and diagnosed with lupus. Being over weight does not help the situation. I got to lose 30 lbs...
