GlennM's Journal, 16 September 2008

Today two female friends said I'm thin enough! Of course they're overweight. Dieting is hard and I'm a rare success story and it was really noticeable in April when spring came here and suddenly I wasn't wearing a coat anymore. Everyone thought I'd lost the weight overnight and it had taken six months - when most people gain here in the cold weather of Massachusetts. Needless to say this autumn or winter I definitely plan to join a gym. The best I FELT was when I'd finished basic training in San Antonio, Texas at age 19 because I'd been running every day also I'd been jogging a lot in the Philippines with friends and different girlfriends when I was young stationed there when my arthritis wasn't bothering me. I got a compliment on how good I look today from one of my female friends who'd said I'd lost enough, I told her ten more pounds. She won't diet. Of course four friends all on the big side were eating my favorite food of french fries tonight down in our TV room. I had none. Pizza last week was bad enough. It takes willpower to lose weight, but anyone can look their best if they just want to and do it for good health reasons too! Stay here everyone - I'm nearing my goal weight you can do it too! :) I looked on the computer my ideal body weight is 191 so around 188 is OK I suppose.. I'm 6'3". (I was in the 220s last year and hovering around 260 8 or 9 years ago at my highest weight so many people who know me in my building of 200 people remember an overweight me)- Remember I lost about a pound a week from Oct 2007 to Apr 2008 and then plateaued and even gained back a few pounds until I went back on induction with the challenge this month. A pound a week is slow but BELIEVE ME people notice the difference from the 220s to below 200!

A pound a week is the best way to lose weight and keep it off! Kudos to you for sticking with it!

Isn't it funny how its other overweight people who try to sabatoge us? And are also the ones that tell us we have lost plenty and are getting "too thin"? I agree with you - you need to just focus on what you know and do what is right for you - despite what others think.

I have had similar comments made to me from my famioly members who are overweight. Also comments like "you won't get too thin will you?" Of course I won't get unhealthy but I am not sure what too thin will be!!! LOL. You will know what your body feels best doing & what your body is feeling like. If we notice an anorexic GlennM we will tell you we are concerned. Do what you think is best! More power to you!
