I have had weight issues since I was 12 years old. It didn't get really out of hand until the last year of high school. I am now in my 30s, and I am over 330 pounds. I have been fighting the battle of the bulge and losing. I don't want to die young. I don't want early health issues that I should expect later in life because of the natural cycle of things breaking down.

I want to be happy, and I want to live a enriched life.

How much fat is too much!
My dietitian said she would love it if I ate 1 avocado a day. My endocrinologist said I could have a couple of eggs a week. Emerald has these 100 calorie packs in a box. I get them at Target. I pair 1 packet with a Kashi TLC Soft Bake Cereal for a morning or afternoon snack. For cheese, I recommend Laughing Cow Light Swiss Spreadable cheese. It's delicious and so tasty that you don't have to add mayo or another condiment to a sandwich. Wasa crackers, I recommend them.

The thing you need to be wary of is keeping your saturated fat lower than the other fats. Also, be aware of trans fat. Look at your label and see where the carbs are coming from. If the numbers are matching up, look in the ingredients. Most likely if there is a big gap in the numbers (i.e. Fiber, Sugars) then there is probably high fructose corn syrup or something else not so good for you.

Low Carb Diet
Wow, I am truly amazed by the amount of really thoughtful posts. I really am. I will definitely take everything into consideration. I suppose I am fearful simply because I don't want to die anytime soon, and I feel I am in a very critical point in my life - approaching 35, and I really want to live a long, healthy life. I don't want to be on abundance of medication when I am older.

Kingcole35 is right about IBS and a lot of fat. I don't have as many flare ups as I once did. However, when they hit, it's painful. There's not one type of IBS either - some have more diarrhea, others constipation, or both. I lean toward more constipation. This is painful at times. I have a harder time eating vegetables than I do meat to be honest. Although, I don't do red. After 10+ years, last year I actually ate some red meat here and there, but the start of this year, I have cut it out of my diet again - not that I ate much of it anyways. If I eat a lot of vegetables, I will have an IBS attack. It's silly I know. Getting the balance is key.

I have been diagnosed with IBS 4 or 5 times over. I am pretty secure that I have it. However, I can say it was driven for the longest time by anxiety and panic attacks. Once I mended the psychological instigators and developed a meditational way of dealing with the pain - things have been better. You can say I feel I am in semi-remission state.

I am scared of lessening my life so I want to get a hold on my food intake. There are so many ways of eating, so much advice. I think I need to research and come to understanding of how food is processed by the body.

Research is key. However, I really thank you all for your advice and help. Smile

Low Carb Diet
I was diagnosed with a failing thyroid (hypothyroidism) and Polycystic Ovary Syndrome in January. The failing thyroid has been going on I suspect since 2007. The PCOS, I suspect this has been ongoing since I was a teen. I didn't know until because I honestly didn't go to a gynecologist regularly until 2007. I didn't because I didn't have health insurance.

My endocrinologist told me to lose weight and to fend off the insulin resistant effect of the PCOS, I was going to need to consume a minimum of 30 grams of carbs.

I am trying to connect with a registered dietician, who happens to be a doctor. So, I am waiting to get the appointment.

Because honestly, I admit, I am fearful eating a lot of fat. I have eaten semi-poorly for so many years because of bad habits and my IBS that I just don't want to cause any more problems. I know I have impacted my heart enough, and I guess I am fearful of Atkins etc.

My doctor recommended South Beach to me.

Low Carb Diet
Hi, I wanted to ask for some advice. My doctor wants me to consume only 30 carbs a day. I think that is incredibly hard to do and very restrictive. I don't want to consume a lot of fat in its place. To me, fat is fat.

Can anyone recommend how I could achieve the 30 carbs a day maximum?

I have tried and I just end up majorly constipated, having horrible stomach cramps, and feeling defeated.

Thanks!
