It seems I have dieted my entire life. I have never been happy with my weight and have been a yoyo dieter. I turned 50 this year and had decided that I wanted to be healthy. My goals are not agressive any more. I always wanted to loose 50lb, but now if I loose 5lbs at a time I will be very happy.
Every 5lbs, I will celebrate.

i eat approximatly 600grams of lollies a day
That's a lot of sugar. Most of us are sentitive to carbs and this is pure carbs. I would go cold turkey, its the only way. trying to ween yourself off seems like a good idea but your mind will always say "one more won't make a difference". I suggest cold turky and the weight will start to drop. You have to do this for your health.
