I am 43 years old and work as a senior nurse in South Auckland, NZ. Have done Atkins several years ago and kept the weight off for 3 years. Then changed jobs and lost my way and have gained a LOT of weight. Spent the last year trying to get back on the waggon. Have a holiday booked to Malolo Lai Lai island in Sept and am determined not to be embarrassed on the beach.

low carb ice cream
YOGHURT

Hi Lorik and co
I read that the carbs listed on plain yoghurts are misleading as they are calculated from the milk that they are made from and not from the final product. The lactic acid apparently alters the sugars in the finished yoghurt so the carbs are much lower. I have been eating yoghurt for a couple of months now based on this theory and havnt had a problem with gaining weight. The real carb count for plain unsweetened yoghurt is supposed to be only 4 per cup. Of course if you add some berries or other fruit you have to count that as well. I really enjoy the plain greek style yoghurt.

Questions About True Carb Counts and Acceptable Foods
I am with you on this one. I think the flavour added by onions is worth the additional carbs. If I use a recipe I keep the onions in and halve the amount. Also there is lots of evidence that onions have lots of healthy properties (and they smell so good when you are cooking them). I dont think its good to cut them out and have a bland diet, you are more likely to stray if your food is boring and not tasty.

advice needed re abs excersises
Thanks for the tips Jakes. I think I do need to consult a trainer. I was in such a lot of pain from the cramp that I was reluctant to go there again. I had warmed up running first but did have a lot of cold water before doing the crunches so that might not have been helpful.

advice needed re abs excersises
Have lost 12.5 kg and want to tone up. Have started walking and have hired treadmill for the rainy days. When I started toning up the tum with gentle sets of crunches have had really bad muscle spasm down the left side. Any suggestions?
