I'm 35 and have been overweight since the birth of my first son 8 years ago. I got depressed and medicated myself with food. Ugh. I've been doing Atkins since Sept 9th and I've lost 50 pounds so far. I've got a long way to go but I know I can do it. My attitude has changed about food and instead of living to eat, I'm eating to live. I'm very conscious of every morsel I put in my mouth. I love the recipes here and I've tried quite a few.

A little more about me... I'm a stay-at-home mom to two precious boys ages 8 and 5. I'm happily married for 15 years now to the most amazing supportive man on the planet. When we first met I was a size 6. Now...I have to shop in the plus size section. Ugh...Although I'm already down four whole jean size which is pretty great! Atkins is really working for me!

I'm a semi-professional photographer and love the outdoors. You can check out my photos on Flickr. http://www.flickr.com/photos/wdsmiley I've been selling some of my photos at art festivals. Its been fun.

Looking forward to losing more weight and getting healthy. Thanks for all the support!!!! =)

Some people are only alive because it is illegal to kill them!
How incredibly rude!!!! OMG - I don't know if I could have kept my cool in that situation!

I've been asked if I was pregnant and even had a lady pat my tummy when asking when I was due....Ugh - some people just don't have a clue.

I'm sorry about your experience. Better days are ahead for sure!

If obesity is at an all time high in America why is it that I cannot find a dress?
Check out WomanWithin.com too. They cater to size 14 and up and have some really cute stuff at reasonable prices.

fucothin?
I've been on Atkins since September of 2007 and I've lost at total of 42 pounds. I was losing around 2 pounds a week consistently until the past few weeks. It seems as if I've only been dropping a pound every other week. I know slow and steady wins the race - but I'd like to ideally at least be losing a pound a week again.

I was at the health food store yesterday to pick up some stevia and came across a supplement called Fucothin. The two main ingredients are brown seaweed and pomegranate seed oil. This supplement claims to boost metabolism without stimulating the central nervous system.

Keep in mind that I'm not one to usually take *diet pills*. I'm very careful with what I put into my body because I have other health conditions to consider. I have hashimotos thyroid disease and fibromyalgia.

I went ahead and bought one bottle to give it a try, but I thought I would check and see if any of you here at Fatsecret have tried this and if so what results have you seen?

Thanks!

Yes - I've had my thyroid checked. I have Hashimoto's Thyroid disease since my early 20's. My body sees my thryoid gland as foreign and is attacking it. Its an autoimmune thyroid condition. My thyroid antibody test was over 800. I also have a positive ANA - anti-nuclear antibodies. I'm on thyroid medication and will be for the rest of my life. I get my levels checked every three months and my dose changes accordingly. I know my thyroid contributed to some of my weight gain - but I'm trying to be honest with myself and take full responsibility for the predicament that I am in. I am overweight because I overate and didn't do any kind of exercise.

Yes - I am still eating to live and not living to eat. I look at myself as battling an addiction. My addiction is carbohydrates(sugar, potatoes, rice, white flour). Since cutting these from my diet - my life has changed drastically. I know this will be a lifelong change for me because of how good I feel. I don't crave carbs like I did a few months ago.

I would be interested to see the relationship between a low carb diet and reduction of pain in fibromyalgia and arthritis patients. I saw where Sarray wrote about sugar causing a constant inflammatory response. It certainly makes sense.

Thanks for bringing up this important topic!

I have fibromyalgia and since being on Atkins I have felt the best I've felt in YEARS! I have more energy and less pain.
