I am a 25 year old female living in South Louisiana (that right there does me in with all the good cooking we have!). I live with my boyfriend of 2 years and our 3 cats (who also need to go on a diet). I used to be a lot heavier than I am now when I was in college. Once I moved in with a friend of mine we did really good to eat salads and healthy things and we got a lot of exercise and I lost 25 lbs and 4 dress sizes. Then 2 years later my boyfriend and I moved in together (April).

During the summer I did great and kept the weight off, but this winter I developed SAD (seasonal affective disorder) which I've never had before and it left me a funk. I put on 10 lbs over the winter because all I did was hibernate. Now that Spring is here I'm ready to lose the weight again and have actually been putting forth the effort.

I work 14 hour night shifts 3 days a week so I stay up all night every night. This limits my outside time and with the not being able to go outside and the SAD, I've become flabby and just over weight in general. I would like to develop an exercise plan I can do here at work and one for at home to mix it up some. My eating is under control (mostly) when I'm at work, its when I'm home that I slip up. I am interested in meeting other people who are up all night that I could maybe email or Skype message for support.

Calorie deficit. Which is more important, per day or per week?
This is really encouraging to me. 3 days of the week I work away from home so dieting is easier and then I fail when I'm home with my boyfriend. I read also on someone's post that 2-3 days a week they do a "fast" where they try to consume less than 500 calories for that day. This seems counter-intuitive to me because your body goes into starve mode. What information do you have about that?

Calorie deficit. Which is more important, per day or per week?
I read someone's post that said their goal was to have a calorie deficit of 500 per day/ 3500 per week to lose a pound a week. My questions is, does it have to be 500 per day or can it be 3500 per week? Some days I just barely squeak by not going over my daily allowance and some days I have a 1000 calories left over. I'm not making the 500 per day consistently but I'm pretty close to the 3500 per week. Any insights?
