My name is Sierra and I am coming back to Atkins after about 6 years away and regaining the weight I had lost. I had lost 75 pounds in 9 months in 2004-2005. I am very excited and looking forward to losing the weight and keeping it off. I have two sons, Stephen(23) and Michael(15). Stephen lives in VA and Michael lives with me. I have two dogs named Bia and Maddie.

Hi Zulu! Since the OP is on Atkins, a tsp of sugar would be a bad idea. Part of the Atkins process is to eliminate sugar and other simple carbs. Having sugar will actually make the cravings come back in full force. Most of us are addicted to sugar and telling a sugar addict who is trying to get away from it, is not unlike telling a heroin addict to just do a little to get over the craving.

Gluten/Wheat free products ??
Look in the recipes on this site. There are a lot of great ones to satisfy that sweet tooth. I love the cheesecake for one. It really hits the spot when I crave cheesecake. In the store you can find russell stover sugar free chocolates. Just be careful how many you eat. Sugar alcohols can stall some people. You can do wonders with a little whipping cream, unsweetened cocoa powder, and splenda. Lol

Feeling Cynical
I agree. You have only really been losing for the last month and you ARE pretty close to your goal weight. Are you drinking plenty of water? Are you exercising at all? Start by making three goals for yourself. Make sure you are drinking enough water. Start getting some kind of exercise every day...even if it is just a few walks around the block. If you are already exercising...add 30 minutes to whatever you are doing now. And lastly, commit to recording every single bite or drink that passes your lips. You may have carb creep and not realize it. As just a side note, I feel that weighing food is a lot more accurate than measuring. I was measuring at first and once I started weighing, I realised that I was eating more than I thought. Keep the faith. You have been doing good so far. If you stay the course, you will reach your goal!

Should I stop Atkins??!!!
If you go to Snopes.com they talk about it. While they list the veracity of the rumor as undetermined, it seems that a lot of it is based on his weight at the time of his death. He was 245 pounds when he died which is considered obese. Critics jumped on that as meaning that the diet caused him to be overweight. However, when he was admitted to the hospital as a result of his fall on the ice, his weight was 195. The added weight was due to fluid retention as a result of organ failure. People who follow the diet correctly usually see their numbers get better rather than worse. I know that my dr is very pleased with my results as my cholesterol, triglycerides, etc are all normal and my blood pressure has come down into normal range since December when I was in hypertension range.
