Start Weight:(04 Aug 08) 160.0 lb
Current Weight:(07 Sep 08) 163.0 lb
Goal Weight:150.0 lb
following: Atkins
performance: losing 1.0 lb a week

I am 5'7" tall. I am doing a whole-foods version of Atkins and I eat gluten-free and soy-free and I limit my dairy. In my first three months doing Atkins I dropped 17% body fat and gained muscle so I only lost 5% of my body weight. I went down almost 3 dress sizes. I lowered my cholesterol and triglicerides from high to healthy ranges. According to the Atkins book I am considered to have a high metabolic resistance which is why other diets don't work for me.

I have had some health issues in the past related to some undiagnosed food allergies. Since I've been able to eliminate allergens (wheat, milk and soy) from my diet, I've been the healthiest ever. You can read my full story on my website at wisdomnutrition.info

I love Atkins but other books that have influenced me are: "Patient Heal Thyself" and "Restoring Your Digestive Health" by Jordan Rubin; "The Body Ecology Diet" by Donna Gates; "Good Calories, Bad Calories" by Gary Taubes; "The Cortisol Connection" by Shawn Talbott; "The South Beach Diet" by Dr. Arthur Agatston; "The Fat Flush Plan" by Ann Louise Gittleman; and "Nourishing Traditions" by Sally Fallon.

I love to read and discuss the latest research. I have dealt with food restrictions for the last ten years and I know what works. Message me any time.

Goals:
Get cholesterol and trigliceride levels down. Met goal! 12/21/07
Get down to a size 6. Met goal! 3/2/2008
Get down to 155 by September 29th
Get down to 150 by Thanksgiving

Diet Soda
Well, it is up to you, but some people find that Aspartame makes them crave bad foods more. It has been shown to cause imbalances in insulin even though it doesn't affect blood sugar levels. It also gets metabolized as formaldahyde in the body, which is a known carcinogen and neurotoxin. But don't take my word for it, look up aspartame. Splenda isn't all that great either. Look it up. Message me if you want some links.

Genisoy Protein Powder
You do want muscle. Lean muscle increases your metabolism and burns calories. Women do not bulk up like men do, it is a myth. Talk to a trainer that can help gear your weight routine to long thin muscles.

The problem with soy is that it imitates estrogen in the body. This can cause a lot of hormone imbalances if it is a primary source of protein. Whey does not do this.

Look for organic and low-heat processed if at all possible because it makes the protein more digestible and better for you. High heat processing of any protein powders cause a lot of impurities that are hard on your liver and your digestion.

Questions to all other low-carb dieters...

I told her that I absolutely agreed (who wouldn't - that diet is a heart attack waiting to happen).

Respectfully, I do disagree with you and so did Dr. Atkins, as do Drs. Eades, Gary Taubes, Dr. Jeff Volek and more low-carb experts. Red meat, mayo and bacon sounds like a perfectly acceptable diet (assuming there's no hydrogenated oils in the mayo, gross).

I agree with healsdata, as long as the red meat is grass-fed, and no trans fats, no nitrite bacon, you're good to eat all that. Eat fat to lose fat. It is important to eat WHOLE FOODS fats, not processed. Eating just ANY red meat is not healthy, but if you know the source it is a great way to get your fat-soluble vitamins and minerals. WHERE you get it is very important.

Don't forget Dr. Weston Price!

Body Fat
I agree with: eat more protein, small meals more often to keep the metabolism up and cut sugar and refined flour.

Good luck!

Anyone MISS Being Big?
I can relate to baileysmom2000 and how people pay more attention to me when I'm in shape and at the right weight. I figured out that is at or under 153 for me, not where I am right now. I get annoyed more with myself, though, which I know isn't healthy. I think sometimes I sabotage myself when I get under that because I turn heads and I get uncomfortable with the attention, I just dont' know what to do with it. I PREFER being a fly on the wall most of the time.
