Hi all. I'm new here.
Hi and good luck to both of you! It's great to see you are concerned about exercise and plan to incorporate it into your weight loss journey.

Ultimately though, weight loss begins in the kitchen, so let your body heal and be nice to the parts that are injured. That doesn't mean don't move...it just means be sensible. Remember that watching what you eat and how much, is whats going to help you drop the weight. The exercise will help you become a fit, healthy and happy person.

Biking is a great way to get some low impact exercise so when you heal up don't be afraid to stretch out those body parts with a nice leisurely ride. Smile

Atkins vs. Weightwatchers
I don't disagree with anything you are saying Mike. Your individual health plays a huge role in what you can and cant eat. I think we are on the same page. However, there are many so called "diet plans" that people put forth as a one size fits all magic bullet that will make them healthy people if they follow it, and that's the real danger here.

I constantly see people throw around "X carbs" or "%carb,%fat,%protein is the way to go" on this site and its fascinating and disgusting all at the same time. The idea that a 178 lb man who does a 60 mile bike ride on a Sunday and feels great afterwards while downing a natural recovery drink should consume the same mix of food as a 230lb woman sitting on the couch all afternoon following xyz diet to lose weight is just silly but thats what many people on this site would have you believe.

As long as you don't have any underlying health issues that affect your insulin levels and there is a reason for your body wanting a particular food ie...you just worked really hard physically, there is absolutely no reason to deny yourself carbohydrates. Its what they are there for. If you don't keep up with what your body needs it can lead to the "I always feel like crap after I exercise" excuse and when people feel that way they stop doing it.

You can't exercise your way to losing weight. Its just not feasible. However exercise can be a great way to influence the way you approach your overall health and making real changes in your lifestyle. If you choose to go that route and you start really "getting into it" you have to watch what you are putting into your body to get the most out of it.

I'm sure many of the diets that have been mentioned in this thread are fine plans to give people a path to follow while trying to figure out how to get to their goals. All I would caution is that people need to be careful and really look at what they are trying to accomplish and how they are going to maintain their weight and ultimately what you want to be able to do when you get there.

I would also remind people to be supportive, conservative and thoughtful when it comes to sharing your views on this site. Not everyone is going to fit into the diet plan box that you've chose to sit in. If it was up to me I'd have everyone biking at least twice a week but I don't put that in every post. Well...I try not to. Laughing Magic blends of carb, fat and protein are all well and good just make sure you find the one that's appropriate for you and remember its not going to be the one that's appropriate for the the person sitting to the left and to the right of you. Physical vs. Mental Limits
Oh I so know how you feel Nat. P90X-Yoga yesterday. Just brutal. The important thing is you hit play after you hit pause.

I would add if this starts to become a regular feeling then you might want to check out your diet and make sure you are feeding it in the right way. It could be your body is ready to push to the next level but it doesn't have the right stuff to run at a faster pace.

Push through but don't hurt yourself. Smile

Craving sweet foods
I personally never deny myself a sweet but I make myself work for it. If you're eating a pint of Ben and Jerry's on the couch or sneaking in a Frosty with French fries on the road (Oh Wendy's my nemesis) then you are not getting rid of the craving in the right way.

Jump on your bike. Ride to the gelato bar. Order a small of your favorite flavor. Really enjoy it. Ride back. Craving solved. Calorie neutral.
