Dieting and Not Exercising?
I don't exercise other than general walking. When I exercise and diet, I just gain weight. My plan is two phases. 1. Lose weight. 2. Reshape my body. I plan to replace food deficient with exercise when I hit my goal weight.

Cookbook question
I leave mine in Pending status since I don't type out the "how to" section. Just click on the right side of the screen where it says "My cookbook" pick the recipe you want and select the link that says "add to food diary"

It is a bit backwards, but it gets you there. Once it is in your recent or often foods, you can pull it right from there.

I haven't tried shakes, but want to. QUESTIONS!
There is a guy at my work who did Medifast for 4 months, lost 50 lbs and has kept it off for over a year. He is very dedicated. I tried them and broke out in hives. Apparently a small portion of the population is allergic to one of the ingredients. Lucky me.

While I eat real food most of the time. I use a protein shake in a pinch. I keep some at work, and if I have to skip lunch or work late, I have a ready meal replacement so I don't go to the vending machine. For me that is a life saver.

You could consider instead of replacing a meal, replacing a snack. (they are usually under 200 calories). It doesn't have to be medifast. You could use any Protein shakes (Jay Robb, Muscle Milk, etc.) See how you like. Do you feel satisfied? Do you have cravings?

If adding one in works for you then do it. If not, the stick to what works.

How many calories and RDI
Thanks for the links. I have found it to be too high too. I just go into the settings and adjust it for what I want it to be. that is the nice thing about FS, it is customizable.

Going from low cal to low carb
I did the same and it has been fantastic. Hammerzeit is right, low carb snacks around are critical. I bought a dehydrator and make my own jerky. It is great. no preservatives. You can pack it and take it with you. I also figured out that there are a lot of sugar in salad dressing, so I now bring mine along with me for eating out.

At work I keep canned tuna and chicken in my desk drawer for when I have to work late or skip lunch so I don't run to the vending machine.
