I AM A 60 (ALMOST 61) YEAR OLD GRANDMA. I was diagnosed with Lupus in my mid 20's. I have struggled through this complication in my life for a long time. But, miraculously about 18 months ago, I got better. This is I BELIEVE, a gift from GOD. A gift I hope I am living up to.

The first month of feeling better, dare I say WELL. I finished 8 projects that had been sitting on my table. I started the emense project of downsizing my home. I had a huge sale, with the help of family and friends, and donated everything (except 10 items I decided I could not live without)that was left. My stuff benifited many and lightened my already happy heart.

I have started and finished many projects since then. I was let go from my job, another gift. I am not sure where I would find the time to work now and am so gratful for being fired. About 10 minutes after leaving my job, I decided that I was meant to travel a new path and have never looked back to that fork in the road.

I have stuggled many times to take my weight off and I make no promises now. My plan is to take one day, one hour, one minute at a time and do the best that I can. I thank God for every miracle in my life and I have been blessed with many, the biggest and best one is my wonderful family.
I am trying to get healthy, and to "Treat the world well. It was not given to you by your parents, but lent to you by your children

UPDATE 2016
I keep hanging in here, hoping for the inspiration to get to goal! I'm a little older, a whole lot busier! And I LOVE MY LIFE!! I just would like to change the package, my body. It would be tons easier to do all the things I enjoy to do, if I was thinner. I weighted in this morning in my TOPS group, I also belong to Weight Watchers. I attend on different days, hoping to keep my motivation up!

Atkins vs. Weightwatchers
I agree, the key is sticking with whatever choice works best for your lifestyle. And kuddos to PORTION control, although I agree sometimes they feel miniscule (very small), that is part of the key.

weight watcher points
Go to "my toolbox" under that it says "my diet". Go there and follow the directions. Hope that works, I had to do it when I changed to WW.

New point sytstem
Wow, I love the new points program. I had been following the old program, but with the new calculator, that is all you need. It will tell you the points and take them off your daily total if you wish. I also absolutely love the free fruit and vegetables. I am not a veggie eater, but I am getting better at it, they are FREE. I am eating more fruit, it's FREE, HURRAY!!! I have been traveling and I can catch a meeting anywhere. I am very pleased. The other thing is, that you really do not need the cookbooks or food value books, with the internet, all that stuff is on line.

I've made myself paranoid!
A pound of body fat equals approximately 3500 calories. So, the math is simple. Take what you were used to eating. Reduce it by 500 calories a day and in 7 days you will have had 3500 calories less. Approximately a loss of 1 pound per week. If you wish to lose 2 pounds a week, reduce your calorie intake by 1000 calories a day. I do agree that nobody should reduce their calorie intake below 1200 a day on a consitent basis. Hope this helps!
