I would love to say I turned 40 and started to gain weight but in reality I started out heavy and have been gradually increasing for years. I love to camp and hike with my boy's scout troop and one day just admitted to myself I needed to do something.

My goal is to be under the weight limit and physically fit by next summer(2011) so I can join my son at Philmont Scout Reservation in New Mexico. I have a long way to go and a lot of bad habits to change.

Update July 2011: I didn't make my goal of being under 200 by the time I left on my backing trip to Philmont New Mexico with 16 great Boy Scouts. Although I did obtain the most important goal of making the weight limit to go on the trip!! I couldn't have done it without entering everything into FS and getting the wonderful support from people I didn't know.

Once I return from my trip my plan is to quickly obtain my 200lb goal then make another goal of 180!!!

You haven't reached your goal weight yet...but
I couldn't have written that list any better. The only thing I could add was I am able to do things now that I couln't do before. While I still have a ways to go before I achieve my goal, I have now made the weight requirement to go on a backpacking trip to New Mexico in 3 weeks.

As for getting over the plateau, what worked for me was doing something "different". I started swimming at on plateau, started running at another. Set goals for what I wanted to do and not for the weight I wanted to lose. In the end I achieved both.

Amazing, stumbled onto this thread by accident. So glad I did, I truely needed some encouragment right now and here it was. Read through the entire thread and amazed by what everyone has done for themselves!! Congraulations to all!
