I'm a short (5' 4") 41 year old army wife, currently in Hawai'i, and I homeschool my two kiddos, 12 and 9 1/2. It's hard to get time away to exercise unless I get up at 5am and I'm not a morning person. I struggle, but it's doable. Now that the weather is nice year around, I don't need a gym, but I need to run before the sun is up or it gets too hot (not complaining!!). I love the sunrises that God bleses me with when I am disciplined enough to do this. I'm desperate to lose weight and get fit.

I had lost 20+ pounds and then blew it over our recent move here. I'd gained maybe 5 pounds. Then, between the delicious and fattening local foods and getting vertigo, I just plain got fat. Poo. I gave up counting calories and exercise when I couldn't exercise. Bad idea. My vertigo is pretty much gone so I run close to home. It felt good to get moving again. My "job" is very sedentary so it's critical that I exercise.

My goal is to weigh about 130 with muscle tone and strength. I'd like to look pretty and healthy for my husband. After my second kiddo, I did this. I weighed 128 and had 17% body fat. I can do close to that again by making healthy lifestyle choices. I want to do it again so that it is a habit to make healthy choices so I can maintain a healthy fitness level. I'm tired of yo-yo weights and clothing sizes. I also struggle to set an example for my kids that see me struggle with my weight. I'm trying to balance reality with not making them get eating disorders.

Working out and dieting and gaining!
Hang in there! It is frustrating. I've been there. Still, even when I gain, I feel better for the exercise and better food. You will too.

I weigh daily and my weight chart looks like a rollercoaster. It has to do with when I ate, what I ate (salt?), when I exercised, and what/when I drank. The gains still aggravate me, but I look at the overall picture. So many variables that I have to let go of the fluctuations. I'm not there yet, but I am working on it.

I'm no expert... still I would say be diligent in inputting ALL you eat into your FS. Also, do that with exercise. It will help you see the importance of good food choices and good exercise choices. Sometimes that motivates me to exercise more or choose a different food. Ultimately, it's calories in vs. calories burned so you will see your ratio. There's 3,600ish calories in a pound so you can also track how much you "should" be losing.

Additionally, when I enter food or exerise I round up for food and down for exercise. That way I'm pleasantly surprised if I lose.

There's my two cents -- and that's probably overpriced!
