I'm onefatmamma at the ripe old age of 45, yet I look and feel like I'm eighty...LOL. I've always been one who puts others needs before my own and never really cared about myself, but now it's my turn! So I've decide to start taking care of me, myself, and I. I'm not looking to become some super model, fitness queen; just comfortable with myself & my size once again. In the past 10 years, I've put on over 50 lbs simply due to becoming lazy and because of that my joints have taken the blunt of it all causing me to have two operations in the last 6 months that I'm now recovering from (knee & foot). So it's time to stop killing myself & fix myself...I hope to make some new friends along the way, also!

The diet uses the Glycemic load index of foods (how fast they are digested) the lower the load the more time it takes to digest; therefore, it keeps you fuller longer & doesn't raise your blood glucose levels as fast as more high glycemic foods. You can purchase books on Amazon.com that breaks the diet down more as well as many websites that help explain it. The only problem I've found is that some sites vary on the foods loads. The best way to look at the diet is like diabetics diets. Refined sugary foods such as sugary cereals, sugary/water filled fruits will raise the blood glucose levels faster because they have been so processed or water soluble that they enter the blood stream faster (easy to digest). Where foods like oatmeal, whole grains, fresh/frozen vegetables and low sugar fruits (berries, apples), digest slower raising the blood glucose levels more steadily & keeps you full longer. Hope this helps you to better understand the diet.

Help
I feel your pain in the same boat. Research the web for physical therapy moves for arthritis as well as bad knees & back. I have also went to a chiropractor that helped to realign my spine & fixed my pain flare ups. I also use an elliptical & stationary bike. Strength training moves like squats, lunges, wall squats, high leg raises, calve raises, are just some of the PT exercises I was told to do after my knee surgery. I use to love to go walking on the local trails & tracks but haven't been able to since my knee & foot surgeries but these exercises have helped me to adjust & able to stay on my feet longer. Good luck with your quest.

What difference is there in resting & sitting?
I don't understand how I can burn more calories sitting than resting, what's the difference? Just trying to understand burn more calories than I eat? Exercise even light walking is better for burning calories than watching TV, but everyone talks of counting everything you do when calculating calories out???
