performance: losing 0.5 lb a week

Turning 35 made me decide it was time to get my weight under control once and for all. I have been battling a weight problem since I was about 8 years old. I started Weight Watchers for the first time when I was 13. My weight at that time was 164. I lost 20lbs, which I promptly gained back. In January of 2002, at the age of 26, I ended up going back to Weight Watchers where my weight then topped out at 245. I was able to lose 20lbs in about six months and have been fighting ever since to keep that 20lbs off plus lose more. I have yo-yoed between 235 and 210 for 8 years now. I am so sick of carrying all this extra weight around that I am now determined to lose it for good. I have put my goal weight at 170lbs, but right now I would be happy just getting under 200lbs. Time is not on my side, considering with age it gets harder and harder to lose weight. That's why I figured it was time to get serious since my 35th birthday is/was this year. My husband and I just moved back to Maine from Connecticut where we had been for four years. The change threw me off my exercise routine so now I am trying to get back to exercising 5 days a week between 30-60 minutes, which I had been doing for two and a half years. The job I have now starts earlier in the morning so I am not able to exercise before work like I did when we lived in Connecticut. I am trying to make myself do it when I get home from work, but my motivation is somewhat lacking at that time of day. If I want it badly enough though I can't make excuses I just have to do it.

How Do You Stay Motivated?
The way I stay motivated is by thinking about all of the older people I know who have not eaten well and exercised over the course of their lifetimes. A lot of them are on 10 different medications, have diabetes or have had multiple joints replaced (i.e. knees and hips). I do not want this to happen to me, so whenever I start to slide off track I think of the people that I know who have many health problems related to their weight and that is what keeps me going. I refuse to give up and become another statistic.

a *Plug* for my favorite Radio Station......
I live in the Portland, Maine area and have been listening to WBLM for years! It really is one of the best radio stations on the planet! Everyone should be able to listen to the Blimp and Brian James has to be the best DJ ever!

Weekend Sabotage
I am pretty good at talking myself out cheating too except when I am bored. That is my biggest downfall and I have more down time on the weekend so that is when it happens most. My goal is to fill all my time so I don't think about food, lol!

Weekend Sabotage
Thanks so much for all the great responses and ecouragement! It is nice to know that I am not alone and to hear how others deal with eating on the weekends. I will definitely try some of the tips that have been given here. I also have to say, Icymaiden, that you described how I feel exactly. I try to keep what I am eating low carb or at least not processed or refined and sometimes things are hard to find like that on the go. I can't believe how similar our situations and feelings are!
