I sign my posts Mm and I'm 51 years old, perimenopausal, and fat. I have been fat for a long time. In May I started taking a medication that causes weight gain. Consequently, I gained some weight on top of the excess I already carried. The extra weight caused my knees to hurt badly. I have been a runner for the last 10 years. I always grumped that I didn't lose weight from running, but turns out the running was staving off increased weight all that time. When I stopped running because of the knee pain, I started gaining even more weight. Now I am at my heaviest weight ever and I feel so awful about how I look and how I feel. I want to be able to be comfortably as active as I have gotten used to. I want to stop the trash talking that goes on in my head about how I look, and then I want to look better and be healthier.

Calorie Counter on DROID
@Amy

You can add a food to the database this way.

-go to search and enter the food you are looking for/planning to add.
-when you get whatever results tap the menu function along the bottom of your phone
-choose add food and there ya go.

I am not certain, but I think if you add a recipe it may count the calories for you. it would be far easier to do that online though. Smile

Calorie question
From your journal I see that you have lost 2.5 lbs in around two weeks, which is very reasonable. I asked my doctor for a recommendation, and have set the stats here at the recommended calories. Besides cutting calories, she also recommended moderate exercise. I try to walk every day...and if not walk, at least do something exercise-wise. (I've been dancing a lot lately Smile ) Another thing I read is to calculate your calorie intake by taking your goal weight times 10 and that would be your calorie goal every day. For instance, my goal weight is 145. 145 x 10 is 1450...and my doctor recommended 1500kcal, so apparently that is a pretty good calculation. It's important to note that not eating ENOUGH can slow your weight loss, too.

That's it, just a few thoughts.

ebuddy? weight loss buddy?
I think maybe you just did it by posting. There are also Groups to hook up with folks but I have found them not especially helpful. I am interested in a support person, so if you want to message me we can talk about how to do it for each other.

anyone with any tips caffiene withdrawal...
I switched painlessly from coffee to tea. (coffee and halfnhalf have kcals, tea with sweetener doesn't) What I have found is though I was addicted to coffee and seriously required it every morning in order for my brain and body to jumpstart, the tea is a take it or leave it thing and my brain works fine in the morning without any stimulant. I drink coffee occasionally because I like it, but too much and I get jangly and uncomfortable. Tea I can drink day in and day out and never feel over stimulated. I drink black tea...Irish Breakfast, occasionally English Breakfast which is not a strong, and when I'm saving money, I resort to Lipton's orange pekoe. So that's my thinking on the matter. I still have to drink lots of water, but it's for other reasons than getting the caffeine out of my system. You wrote this a few days ago so if you stuck it out, you are feeling fine now so this is a moot post.

Time Zones - what country do you live in ?
Hi Doirin,

I always like to know where others are from...that's the joy of this whole intrawebs thing after all! I'm in the Pacific Northwest, near Seattle, Washington, US. It's cool, cloudy, and thinking seriously about raining here this afternoon. I believe our time difference from here to there is 7 hours.

I visited Ireland a couple of years ago. It was wonderful. Very much the same sort of climate as here, less mountains more open-ness, equally green! What town are you near?

You can change your time zone by going to My Account and scrolling down near the bottom of the page. That ought to set everything straight.
