ok so I am up a few pounds, no biggie! I am pretty sure I know what has happened and steps are in place to remedy the situation.

1. I wasn't tracking my food...I know, I know. It was lazy of me to not track.

2. I have not been taking the proper magnesium supplement. I realized we had purchased Mag Oxide rather than Mag Citrate which actually makes you a bit constipated (and thus, not eliminating properly, hence weight gain).

3. I suspect I have not been eating enough fat or food in general (see #1)

4. Along with #3, I have not been taking enough coconut oil, but HAVE been eating nuts. So, eliminating nuts, increasing coconut oil and getting back to the basics.

I also have been looking at some research regarding Keto and women's hormone response. Interesting stuff for sure! Apparently there is a colloquial term foe the state I have been in the past week: low carb purgatory. I have sufficiently lowered my carb intake, and eliminated inflammatory carbs/oils, but haven't eaten enough (or enough fat) to produce sufficient ketones to be considered ketogenic. Like I stated previously, steps are in place to remedy the situation.

Had a visit with the doc today to get baselines done. She seemed a bit overwhelmed but impressed at the knowledge I had regarding how metabolism worked and our hormonal response to foods. She was more than happy to order up whatever tests I felt I wantes done for baselines though, which was nice. She also said she can refer me to an endo or nutritionist should I feel I need their expertise as well. Labs are being drawn on Wed morning, so I should have results this week or next. I specifially asked for HgB A1c, Full thyroid workup (tsh, free t3/t4), Cholesterol and lipid panel (with breakdown of LDL particle type), vitamin B and D levels.

Will check in next week with results following labs. KCKO!

Since re-starting Keto, I have been introduced (via my hubby) to some EXCELLENT podcasts, which I have been listening to at work. These podcasts (particularly 2 Keto Dudes) have not only helped me to stay focused, but have also taught me more of the actual science behind what is happening in my body on this journey toward total health. I listen primarily to 2 Keto Dudes, but will fill in with Livin La Vida Low Carb and Keto Talk with jimmy Moore and the Doc. While taking my lunch break last night, I had an epiphany of sorts: This is a game that I am playing, and my opponent is my UNhealthy body! In order to "WIN" the game, I must know the rules. I am learning the rules via podcast education. I also must have some other parameters (ie, baseline numbers). I mean, how in the world can I truly know where I am going, unless I understand where I have been, right? So, I am scheduling a doctor appointment for a FULL physical, including full blood workup and thyroid panel (since I am Hypothyroid). I have also listened a bit to the YouTube personality Elliot Hulse (who I find to be not only knowledgeable, but actually quite inspiring on an emotional level). Elliot always seems to come back to the idea that you will NEVER fully commit to being "healthy" until you can actually SEE yourself as healthy. This makes a WHOLE lot of sense to me! I have spent time in the past week (daily actually) envisioning what I will look like at my goal, how I will feel, the length and texture of my hair, the clothing I will choose to wear, the activities I will engage in, etc. This "meditation" of sorts has also fueled the fire within me to reach my goal. My husband and I reflected this morning about how we have felt re-starting our Keto journey, and we both agree: it just FEELS right this time! We both liken this feeling to what it was like when we both quit smoking. We had both been smokers for 15+ years (more than a pack a day) and one day, we just looked at each other and said, "enough!" And right then and there, we quit and never looked back! This is how this journey feels!! I can't WAIT to embrace the ups and downs, share successes (and failures) and finally BE the person I know is inside, hiding under a layer of chubbiness! Keep calm and Keto ON!

Had such a great family day yesterday! My husband organized a family outing that took us first to a nature preserve to walk the trails and just "be" in nature. What a refreshing journey!! Our little daughter (almost 2 yrs old) enjoyed looking at butterflies, listening for wildlife (Mommy, did you hear that?"), and watching the ducks swimming. After we had seen the preserve we decided to head to the Como Park Zoo and Conservatory since we were just 20 mins away. What a great time!! Now that the minion is a toddler, the animals and their behavior are becoming fascinating to her. Once we had had our fill of the zoo we packed it all up and headed back home. The little one was passed out in the car before we had even made it out of the area. Later that evening we tried to see part of the meteor shower, but Mother Nature had other ideas and gave us a bit too much cloud cover. We all stayed on track yesterday and weren't even tempted by all the food stands at the zoo. My husband had prepared food for the day's outing (cream cheese stuffed Jalapenos with a 1/2 slice of bacon on top). Even the minion devoured them! I LOVE how quickly my body remembers how to "keto". All that activity with walking and I didn't feel tired or limited in ANY way! I am encouraged by all the quick weight loss (even though I know a bunch of it was "water weight". I am also realistic enough to know the momentum of the first week will slow and normalize. I am committed to making this a lifestyle instead of just another "diet". I know my whole family can flourish eating this way. I do hope everyone has had a blessed weekend and has found something that can motivate them. Keep calm and Keto on!
