I'm a 43 yo mother of two girls ages 13 and 10. I lost 53 pounds from April 2009 through February 2010 by doing a combination of Weight Watchers and exercising (I started cycling after not being on a bike for 20 years!) I got down to about 116 pounds which was very difficult to hold, and ended up maintaining my weight at around 134 for about a year.

Then I hit a hiccup. My 13-year-old daughter got cancer. She had a liver transplant in February 2013, was cancer free but her cancer returned late in 2013. She's been in and out of the hospital with surgery and follow-up since then - no chemo yet but that's likely coming soon.

I have gained all my weight back.

I haven't been on my bike in over a year.

I'm depressed, unhealthy, uncomfortable and back in a size 12 (from a size 4).

I need to start moving again. I need to eat healthy again. It's so hard when I live my life from day to day, worried that I'll lose my daughter, but I have to do it. In 2015, I'm going to do it.

Thinking Out Loud - Your Thoughts?
I lost over 50 lbs on WW over the course of 11 months and hit goal in February 2010, then went below goal while still on the plan. I switched to calorie counting around June and have stuck with about 1800-2000 calories per day, but have slowly gained about 5 lbs back. I exercise 5-6 days/week. I suspect I was eating a lot fewer calories on WW (I was down to 116 at 18 pts/day and it was getting a little ridiculous). Still, gaining these few pounds back is disappointing. It's good to see that people feel the WW diet can be too restrictive with calories.

I agree that if you want to maintain, it's really important not to eat too little because it's just not sustainable in the long run. I'm now playing around with the total number of calories and really trying to stick with a few core WW rules that I kind of abandoned when I stopped subscribing - drink lots of water, eat lots of fruits/veggies and minimize overly processed foods. Smile

Good luck to you!
