Caffeine
Coffee definitely makes me hungry. I heard once that it is a diuretic and you become dehydrated. You them mistake dehydration for hunger. I also think the caffeine makes you more hyper and impulsive so you throw caution to the wind.

I have tried cutting back, but it is hard. One thing that helped for awhile was bringing sassy water. That was kind of filling but not so dehydrating. I stopped because I am always in a rush in the morning and could never get it together to make it the night before.

Can't seem to stick to it :(
I have been trying to lose for a long time. I have ballooned up over the years and am just disgusted.

I was on Atkins last year and lost about 11 pounds in a month. I finally hit the wall and just could not take one more piece of protein. I then gained it back. In some ways, I have more cravings now than I did before atkins.

I need a diet that allows me to lose without feeling sick, hypoglycemic, weak and tired. I suppose that is the ultimate answer we are all looking for.

The down side is that I drink a lot of coffee because I am so tired most of the time. I have a high stress job and need to be at work early and often stay late. No time for exercise. It is a bad cycle and I am not sure if I can make a dent in any of that, even though I know it is all counterproductive. I have often thought that I might be able to pull it off if I could get more sleep and was not so stressed.

Anyway, that is my situation. Any suggestions are welcome.

Scales: analogue vs. digital
I started the diet with an analogue scale. I always liked them better. Somehow you can see the whole continuum of pounds and they seem more reliable/valid.

I decided to go and buy a digital. The package claims it is reliable to the half pound, but I have seen it go up to two pounds difference depending on how I get on.Honestly, I would be really discouraged right now if I was using that scale as my gauge. By that scale I was 166.5 last night and now this morning, it reads 167.5. I am hoving around 162.5 on my analogue.

Just wondering what your preference is.

WHAT AM I DOING WRONG
For me, it was both calories and what I eat. I can eat practically nothing, but if it is a carb, then the pounds wont come off.

I have been doing atkins, but also the bare minimum of calories as well. I don't buy into the thing of overindulging in bacon, eggs, etc.

My diet, pitiful though it is, usually consists of coffee for breakfast (cant give up the caffeine), a small chef salad for lunch sans any dressing and diet coke, and for dinner another diet coke and often the inside of an arby's beef and cheddar or maybe a salad w/chicken or chili from a fast food place. Then if I am starving, I will eat a couple slices of cheese or deli turkey.

Have you checked with your doctor for thyroid or something else that might be causing you trouble metabolically?

A little challenge
You know, I just posted on my journal wondering if the diet soda slowed the weight loss. Plus I drink a lot of coffee. Ugh. I don't know if I can do the challenge, but I think I will try to cut back anyway.
