I write about and take photos of food, but that's not what made me gain weight in the first place. In fact, I stayed between 205 and 210 pounds for over 2 years, until I started here at Fatsecret, where I first weighed in at 206.

My weight gain was due to a whole lot of changes in my body and in my life at the age of about 35. I went through years of medical treatments due to infertility and took a constantly changing cocktail of hormones that had a profound effect on my body shape. My stress level also went through the roof, from living a new country, and the realization that my professional track would never translate the same way in my new country. I had to change my professional orientation completely, and it was a hard battle, inside and out. I have gone through some major life changes in the past few years.

We are finally adopting a child. I want to be in good condition, physically, for this baby. I also feel like losing this weight is kind of a metaphor for getting my life back, channeling positive progress from many areas of my life into one good direction. Step by step I can take control again and also come to terms with the events that led me to where I am now.

Gaining 60 pounds over a short period of time and carrying it for several years has opened my eyes a LOT about how the world treats people with weight problems, and how painful it is. I think that once I lose the weight, I will be a wiser person, and I will never see the world in the same way again.

Well: Better to Be Fat and Fit Than Skinny and Unfit?
Part of that article that I didn't get was that it made a ridiculous question by combining two different issues. Healthy or not, what do we choose? Healthy. Fat or thin, what do we choose? Thin. If we're fat, can we be happy with healthy? But of course. If we're thin, can we be happy without our health? But of course not. What this article outlined to me in a long winded way was that good health comes first, no matter what we weigh. They really pounded in this idea that fat equates unhealthy in the public eye, and tried to rebut that with this rhetoric that thin people can be unhealthy too. But there really is no denying that being fat can really have catastrophic effect on your health. I know that because I've lived it. I'd rather not have to choose the lesser of two evils.

YELLOW SUN E BEACHERS Mini Challenge - My lifeguard says it's not too late!

My chosen Chinese dish was a cold peanut sesame noodle - not with regular wheat noodles, but spaghetti squash! We were searching for peanut butter for about 3 days - France does not to peanut butter. Finally I gave in and shelled a mess of boiled peanuts, which I toasted - and did the recipe, which was lovely.

I boiled up a pot of regular noodles for the regular folks, and did my spaghetti squash, with a recipe for a sauce as follows:

1/3 cup peanut butter
1 T. Sesame oil
2 teaspoons black rice vinegar
2T. soy sauce (Sorry Veggies Yuk!)
1/3 cut water
1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes
1/4 cup Goma Sio (toasted sesame with sea salt)

Blend until a puree, pour over cold spaghetti squash, and top with toasted sesame seeds and parsley.

WOW A new way to enjoy this classic Chinese dish!

GO SUN-E BEACHERS! Exclamation

My Olympic event was even mentioned by my husband before I even saw this challenge! THE TRIATHALON! Today we race to the beach on the bikes, we will do the 600m swim to the buoy and back, and then when we get home, I am going to top off my workout with a run. This is my first run! I'll report back in when it's done!

I have been raking in the tally points all week! Even when it's been a struggle, I have gotten out and searched for things that are good for me, EVERY SINGLE DAY!

My weight loss this week is making progress, even though I have been talking about a stall. I'll report in again today once I have had a chance to check that I have all the ingredients I need for the Chinese dish, and this will be a GREAT WEEK!
