Seeking OTC equivalent to Phendimetrazine / Phentermine
Thank you to everyone who replied to my question (or, actually, the OP's question I guess). I'm sorry it took me a bit to get back, but I appreciate everyone's support and I am definitely going to go back to my psychiatrist (well, find a new one, actually, because I kinda got rid of my old one after he was always over an hour late for every appointment we had). Currently I'm on Lexapro and Wellbutrin and my regular Doc has just been refilling them for me without really asking if they're working. And yes, diet and exercise have been helpful, but it's hard to get going to do that if you can't get out of your bed.

Seeking OTC equivalent to Phendimetrazine / Phentermine

Piano Noir..What is wrong with people these days? You ask a simple question and you get condescending replies. (I hope I can say something that is a little more encouraging here). I have suffered from depression my entire life and I've taken different antidepressants and I have taken Phentermine, too. Phentermine not only helped with weight loss, but it has been the best medication for me for my depression, too. Unfortunately, you can't take Phentermine long term and you have to be really careful about taking Phentermine with other antidepressants. Phentermine was thought to increase epinephrine and dopamine, but they also found that it increases serotonin, too. If you take this with another medication that increases serotonin you can have a build up serotonin and it can cause life-threatening toxicity in your body. I have been on the search for a medication similar to Phentermine, too. I'm not searching for this medication for weight loss, just the affect it has on me with regard to depression. I have been successful with losing 40 pounds over the last year with a program that I weighed in weekly and exercise. I didn't take any medication. (I'm certainly better at losing weight when I'm accountable to someone). Our community has a free support group that is called "Take Off Pounds Sensibly" -It is similar to Weight Watchers but it is free. This may be helpful to you. The other medication that you might want to ask your doctor about is Welbutrin. I started Welbutrin a few months ago for depression. It has a side effect of weight loss in some people. I found that it does help increase my energy level. (For me it isn't as effective as Phentermine, but it does help some.)Be very careful if you start this medication. It has a side effect of decreasing the seizure threshold in some people. Take it exactly as prescribed. What the CONDESENDING people on this form have to realize is that obesity is an epidemic in our society. They're so many physical, mental, and biological components to this disease. Researchers are just starting to realize it is more than just dieting and exercise. Try and remember that are bodies are programmed to hold on to weight and we are fighting an up hill battle every time we loss weight and try and keep it off. PLEASE BE SUPPORTIVE AND STOP PATRONIZING PEOPLE WHO ARE LOOKING FOR HELP!! Good luck Piano Noir..If I find anything that is as helpful as Phentermine, I'll let you know. Hang in there Smile

WOW! I had the same reaction. Now I'm not allowed to go back on it, as Medi Weight Loss will only let you go back on it if your BMI is above 23. However, I don't really want to go on it for the weight loss, I want it for the anti-depressant qualities! I never felt better! I was motivated, active, happy at work. It worked better than the highest dosage of Wellbutrin ever has (I actually hate Wellbutrin. Currently on it to counter act the sedating affects of Lexapro). Has anyone found an equivalent to this in a safer form, or more in the form of an anti-depressant? I have tried the full range of anti-depressants, and was shocked when I found that nothing worked for me like this Phendimetrazine / Phentermine did! I know it's crazy. I also suffer from anxiety, and yet never had it on this stuff! But when they took me off and told me to start taking the "Stay Slim" (their OTC version), I felt ill and THAT's when I had the anxiety. That stuff makes me hyper, angry, and sick to me stomach. But with the Phendimetrazine, I didn't even need to take the full dosage they were giving me (3 pills a day), 2 was sufficient. Oh I would give anything to find something like it again, something safe that they would actually prescribe. Please if anyone has any good information on this, please let me know. I finally felt like me again. At this point, I don't even care about the weight loss effect, I would just like the anti-depression effect.
