Hello, Brian here. Not new to this site but very determined in this go around. I'm 41 and going to be 42 in April. I'm looking to be better at 42 than I ever was at 21. I have a 70 pound goal that would get me to 180.
Already off to a good start with roughly 6+ pounds this week, but that is how I usually start off.

I started running last year and I finished my first 5 and 10k. I went from 261 to 225 from March to Father's Day. I unfortunately gained most of it back. Tired of the yo-yo diets.

I do know what works for me when it comes to losing weight, so I'm using my own diet. It has been modified a bit throughout the past few years. It is a bit of a mix of what one would do for weight watchers and the abs diet. I'm throwing in smoothies/blasts for my morning and afternoon snacks. I did get a NutriBullet for Christmas and have been enjoying it. Surprised how well it works.

This has been a really good site. This is going to happen!! Onward and downward!!

Need ideas for more PROTEIN please!

Instead of increasing protein when you are cutting carbs you should increase fat.

Really??? Why is that?

You need fat to help with burning fat and building muscle. Everything in moderation.

Protein? Tuna, hard boiled or poached eggs (better egg preps), quinoa, chicken, chia seed (complete protein, great fiber), unsweetened greek yogurt.

Adjust the carbs, you need them - fruits and veggies, less breads. Get a Nutribullet for smoothies (spinach, strawberries, blueberries, pears, apples, celery, carrots, bananas - figure out combos you enjoy but balance based on your need. If you lack time for prep for smoothie - pre-portion everything for a week at one time.

As liv001 said, make sure to get some good fats. Sunflower seeds, flax seed, olive oil.

Water and tea - no alcohol.

These have all been my staples and combined with running - down 21lbs since new year.

Show of hands - Multi-vitamin news
In light of the new study about multi-vitamins giving you no benefit what-so-ever, who didn't take theirs today?

I, for one, still took my One A Day - Mens Formula. I've always questioned its worth - or any multi-vitamins worth as far as breaking down and absorption.

Is there a better way for more effectiveness? Grind it up in a smoothie?

I took it today, but I may question buying my next bottle. My diet is better than before so I'm bound to be missing less. I'm doing more exercise along with the better diet, so do I need it more than ever.

Funny stuff.

Teas
I don't mind the caffeine as it isn't as much in white and green teas. Even in black teas it isn't nearly as much as other things you could drink. I do drink plenty of water as well. I would say most of my liquids are generally, 75% water and 25% tea, but I do have a 1/2 to full cup of skim milk every day. But that is about it. I do have a green tea that I forgot about. It is mango blend that I picked up to drink during the summer cold. Most of the tea I drink is warm, though. The only ones that I drink cold at times is the mango green and the green mint.

Teas
Wanted to throw this out there to see if anybody has incorporated drinking tea as a discipline in their diet. I understand their benefits and have a wide array of loose teas to my collection that I enjoy day to day. Wanted to see what other people enjoy. I do frequent Teavana, although pricey, but find that I do enjoy a nice variety of their teas. I do enjoy teas that you don't need to add anything to. No milk, no sugar

My current favorite: Yunnan Pu-erh from Teavana (choice black tea).

Also have:
To Life from Teavana (choice white tea).
Maharaja Chai Oolong from Teavana (choice oolong and chai)
Morrocan Mint from Teavana (Like mint but satisfies green tea - this may fall from my list (least favorite).
Sassy Cassie's Chai Green Tea from Log Cabin Tea Company- (Ok..probably will let this one go as well)

Currently out of, but love, is the Mint-chilla Chai-Nilla from Spice and Tea Exchange. It successfully puts together the things that I enjoy out of my other teas. My favorite tea (pu-erh), with mint, chai, and vanilla. I have not found a really good tea that makes use of vanilla, but this is one that the vanilla doesn't overpower everything else and is really great.

Anybody have anything? I'm looking for a great green tea.
