I'm a 44-year old single mother to 7-year old twins. Their father mentally and emotionally abused me for years, but I managed to escape him three years ago. Due to what he put me through (and a twin pregnancy) I put on an enormous amount of weight. I have decided it's time to pull my life together again and get rid of the fat! My new beginning starts now.

Heart Palpitations/Issues from dieting. A warning and my experience.
To all those who say that the 'healthy' way to lose weight works - it doesn't for all of us. I eat very little and very healthy. I try and do at least 30 minutes exercise per day (cardio and weights) and I also have very active 2-year old twins that I run around after every day. I lost 38lb on a low carb diet, but the moment I introduced some carbs I managed to gain 20lb in 3 months. I am extremely carb intolerant and I can literally gain 3lb overnight just from eating a slice of bread. The only thing that works for me is high protein diets. I am trying the HCG diet (homeopathic), because quite frankly, nothing else works.

5 Factor Diet
Well, after doing the Atkins for 4 weeks and losing not a single pound, except for water weight in the first week, I sadly have to accept that this is not the plan for me Crying or Very sad

I am going to try the 5 Factor Diet which has had rave reviews everywhere. I have had to order the books from the US, and when they arrive I'll be all go. Got some recipes from the website to get started on. Will let you guys know how it goes. Thank you all so much for your wonderful support Very Happy

Is cheating ok?
My mom always used to say one way of breaking a plateau is just eating a whole slab of chocolate - shock your metabolism. I've hardly ever hit a plateau in my life, but when I did, I ate a few pieces of choc and it never fails to get me back on track. The problem is stopping at a few pieces, because when you have some carbs you instantly crave more. I might set me back a few days, but it breaks the plateau.
