Hi - Just found out about this website and it seems like it will add to my arsenal of motivational support that I need to stay on track with my training for the Chicago Marathon and beyond. I am pretty healthy and athletic and have been blessed with a pretty good metabolism so it is hard to convince myself to get to the gym all of the time. Additionally, I think i need to lose a few (6-9) pounds to be in better shape for the marathon. Figuring out the proper foods to facilitate my marathon goals is another interest of mine so I'm looking forward to seeing the diets of other runners.

Guess I am just looking forward to this site in general. I keep track of my workouts on a regular basis, but I have never kept a food journal for longer than a week. Nothing like an entire website of people, with access to your journal entries, to keep you honest and in it for the long haul.

6 miles in 1 hour...Is that a respectable time?
So many great comments - I'm training for my second chicago marathon, and i combine running on treadmill most days with an outside running group twice a week. Outside vs. inside is a whole different experience, raising incline on treadmill may help to simulate, but it doesn't simulate terrain, wind or any other distraction...bottom line, if you are going to race outside, you need to run outside. I too hate the elliptical, when I need to crosstrain I prefer a bike ride.

For pacing - I love the nikeplus which hooks into ipod nano, ipod or iphone, all info stays on your device, then you can go to website and it has great info and challenges, etc. Additionally, on my google phone there is an app called Cardiotrainer which uses GPS and tracks all types of outdoor activities and gives pace, calories burned etc. Also has a website where you can download your info.

Which is better, a doughnut or skipping breakfast?
k8yk - your blog looks very interesting and informative, printed out the main page from the link and looking forward to reading it.

As for the fast food recommendations, I've had almost all of them - the subway muffin melts are great with eggs or egg whites and if you add bacon it doesn't add that much more fat, just more sodium. I do also love the spinach, feta wrap from starbucks but I think that just has entirely too much sodium -900 mg _ i just read an article today on mayo clinic site that says you should avoid foods that have more than 200mg of sodium per serving (which i know is very hard) and for me as an african american i should limit to 1500 mg per day (others 2300) so i decided to leave that wrap alone.

It might not work for everyone, but I wake up starving and have to eat breakfast so I keep my breakfast at work - steel cut oatmeal that cooks in microwave in 5 minutes and I add raisins and also have 1/2 grapefruit with my coffee -about 240 calories and it carries me through til about 1pm for lunch.

Some info about Diet Soda.
Holly -if you are asking about Flat Belly Diet - yes, it includes diet sodas - I never drink real sodas anyway - I simply cut out diet coke.

Some info about Diet Soda.
I have often wondered why people say you should cut out all sodas when dieting, even the "diet" ones, and I don't know that the health risks are all that clear. I will say this, from a purely vain viewpoint - soda bloats you...as do lots of other foods and drinks, both healthy & unhealthy. The flat belly diet suggests cutting out coffee, tea, sodas and some other fruits for 4 days of debloating. I simply cut out soda and saw a huge difference. I might be playing mind games with myself, but if i cut out the bloat, its easier to get to the real work, and that's enough to cut out the soda. Figure out which mindtrick works best for you because the health aspects will continue to be debated.

HCG Diet
I know it gets talked about in these forums - I was referencing this thread only and the replies posted. People kept repeating the dangers for the ones taking on the diet without stating the obvious alternatives. Or at least questioning why these HCGers have given up on exercise.

I am not new to the site but thanks
