I've been overweight my whole life, but never as heavy as I am right now. I lost some weight in college (down to 175, which for me is good) and managed to keep it off for about 3 years. But then after that it started to slowly creep back on. I think a lot of it had to do with the stress in my life due to graduate school, moving, relationships, etc. I know I need to make serious lifestyle changes, but also know I can do it since I've had some success before.

I'd love some buddies who are in a similar situation, preferably those who have a significant amount of weight to lose and are doing South Beach. But anyone who is positive and motivated is welcome too!

milk
I first tried South Beach back in '03 and then it was "no milk." But I later remember reading something that said milk was now OK for phase 1, as long as you kept it fat free. I'm not sure if newer additions of the book have updated this or not. As for FF half and half in coffee, I remember thinking this was always OK. I believe it's even included in the sample meal plans in the book.

Just watch the fat content in the dairy and you should be fine. I personally stick to FF Milk and do a combo of FF cheese and 2% cheese. Honestly, I love cheese but FF stuff tastes so horrible. 2% is a good compromise for me.
