Hello! I'm the SturgeonQueen. I'm 25 years old and I've struggled with my body image my entire life... well, as long as I've been conscious about looks and whatnot. So, I started back in February, and have seen some results. I hadn't really figured out this place, so I wanted to re-write my bio.

My goal first of all, is to re-learn what I can snack on to be healthy. Not just snacks, but meals too. If I get put into a situation where I am going out with a bunch of friends - what should I look for to eat? So far, so good on this one. Not only does my BlackBerry app for this site help me, but I've made some memos and notes in my phone about what fast food items I can eat, and from where, etc.

Secondly, I want to lose this weight. My goal weight is actually a little high, but I don't think I've ever weighed that little. I believe my lowest was about 141, so I want to surpass that before I drop my goal even further.

Third, I want to get into better shape. I carry weight proportionally, so I didn't really notice when I was getting really heavy. I'd have days when I'd feel like I looked pretty good, and days when I felt like I looked awful. But now, it's time to get lookin' hawt and sexy. That's the goal.

I also want to meet people on here that are doing similar things to what I'm doing. Sometimes I don't want to talk to my mom or boyfriend about how I feel about exercising, or what I've eaten that day... so I like to find people to chat with on here. :)

OH: I also want to use this space to post a few things that I've found out. So the RDI on here is REALLY high, even if you put in that you want to lose a lot of weight (1lb/week). I went to a few other sites and found out MY RDI should be:

Fat Loss: 1790 calories/day
Extreme Fat Loss: 1352 calories/day

So I've set my diet inbetween those two, for 1500 calories. Usually I'll stick to the low end of that, between 1200-1300 calories per day.

Pool Cleaning for exercise??
Does anyone who has a pool have any idea the best way to characterize the "cleaning" portion of taking care of the pool for exercise? Like, we have an above-ground pool, so water is about waist-deep... and I just spent maybe an hour walking around using the large skimmer on a pole to scoop leaves off the bottom and another hand skimmer to try and get stuff off the top. I was walking slowly, but mostly scooping under the water and waving my arms through the water... Should I put this as "yard work" or maybe "shoveling"??

Thanks

Bunions - Questions and Help?
So, I'm posting this because I know someone else out there must have bunions. I am 27 and I have genetic bunions - as in, I wasn't forced into bad shoes as a child, I wasn't wearing high heels all the time - most of my life has been spent barefoot, so... I can't just "wear looser shoes" or "wear bunion pads" to help my bunions.

I think my only answer at this point is a bunionectomy on my left foot especially. Yesterday, I jumped in the pool and I really hurt it. I can hardly walk today, and it's very swollen.

I was wondering if anyone here has ever had a bunionectomy, had any suggestions, or maybe even foot soak suggestions? Because I'm also having problems working out because of my bunions...

Thanks Smile I'm kind of embarrassed talking about them because I grew up being stupid and thinking bunions were like... warts or something, and now I think everyone thinks that - but they're just bony growths on the bones, lol stupid me. Smile

Tilapia!! Haunting me... Help!
So, I eat a ton of tilapia (and other fish, catfish usually, or if I'm feeling rich, some Orange Roughy or Halibut), but anyway - we eat it A LOT... and I'm running out of ideas as to how to cook it...

We eat it breaded and baked, lemon pepper, garlic salt and pepper, sometimes with like garlic alfredo, cajun style, blackened, parmesan crusted, fish tacos...

Seriously, ANYBODY have any other ideas?? Thanks Very Happy

100 calorie snacks (oreo thins)
I have to say I LOVE these 100 calorie packs. I'm not saying they're the best choice of 100 calories to eat, but... I have such a bad sweet tooth that I could've never gotten weight OFF without them.

I DO Enjoy the Almond packs - the Cocoa Roasted ones are SO DELICIOUS and they'll satisfy a craving for sweets. I also like the 100 calorie Wheat Thins because you do get a decent amount, and it helps you from over-eating. I always think crackers and cookies have such a "jip" of a serving size, that the 100 calorie packs do make me feel better about eating them.

I do agree that the cupcakes and hostess snacks and oreo cakesters are good but not really satisfying. I could probably eat the whole box of them (all 500 calories) and still be hungry. Sometimes though, they're nice on the go, and like people have mentioned - portion controlled so you don't need to think. I find them especially nice for the movies... bring 2-3 of them instead of getting candy/popcorn or tempted my other treats.

What do you do for a living??
Hey guys. So cool that you're all teachers! I'm a student, working on my PhD. Eventually, I want to be a professor - and I study fish. Basically, I get paid to go out and go fishing and play in the water. Very Happy It's a lot of fun. Technically, I'm a fisheries research associate. Very Happy
