Hi there,
I am 36 years old and have always been underweight due to health problems related to prolonged, since birth, kidney failure. On November 11, 2000 i finally reached end-stage renal failure and began receiving renal dialysis. On 21-Aug-2002, i received a kidney transplant from my father which, however, failed immediately. after another 5 years on dialysis, i finally received a transplant from a cadaveric doner on 27-Aug-2007. After this i gained a lot of weight in a relatively short period of time, going from 63kg(138lbs) to 94kg(207lbs) in just 6months, reaching nearly 96kg(211lbs) by fall 2008. because of other medical problems i was unable to do much about this at the time, as i was not used to having this problem in the first place.
In 2008, i had knee surgery, enabling me to increase my activities once i healed properly. It took nearly a year for me to heal from this surgery, however now i am able to resume my normal activity level. In May i joined a local gym, in Abbotsford BC, and began working out at least 3 times a week. As a result of this, not only have i lost over 6kg(13lbs) since May, but i have also resumed endurance cycling last week, which was my main form of exercise before i go sick.
In June i bought a new HTC Magic, smart phone, and downloaded the Calorie Counter to track my progress, and i have been using it everyday. So, i decided to check out this site, to see if there is any advise i could find to help me.
