Hello,

I live in a small rural town in Idaho. It is a great place to live and a tough place to eat right :>). The stores here leave a lot to be desired in the way of fresh quality produce and good low fat alternatives. I find that I cannot utilize a lot of the recipies that are posted cause I have a hard time getting the ingredients, but not to whine...I am trying to overcome.

I work for the Forest Service and like a lot of people had a very active outdoor job for a long time and have now settled (literally) into a more sedentary situation. I sit in front of a computer most of the day.

I am married to the best white water rafter in the world and that is what we love to do. I have been on every major white water river in the US.

I love to travel and being overweight makes that difficult. I have exercised on a regular basis since my early 20's but as I have aged and changed job activity, I have not managed my food. I still eat like a wilderness ranger on an 8 day hitch.

I am a social extremist. I wish everyone I knew would come live with me, so we could party all time. I am the group party host and it is where I do a lot of my unplanned eating. I need to learn to manage this activity so that it does not revolve around food..or at least high calorie food.

I have no children and still spend a ton of free time outdoors. If your like me...drop me a note!

Exercise clothing! I need help.
Right now Lady foot locker has a sale on Ryka shoes...they have a good walking shoe that I use for everything..I like Ryka cause I have the classic womens foot, narrow heel and wide foot base...I also have really high arches. The shoes I am talking about are 26.00. If you are gona spend any money at all do it with the shoes...they really count. I have used all kinds of wicking and non wicking clothing,,, the key for me is to shower right after I workout. Nothing else seems to work.

Good Luck and do what you can :>Wink

Advice Needed.
I have seen some change by adding more cardio..and really pushing that envelope. I try to workout at that 85% level. I think it has started to make something move because before, I was doing just about what you are and my weight did not change much. My schedule looks like this now:

Mon - 60 minutes walk/run-30 minutes lift/tone 90 minutes YOGA (which I HATE)

Tues. - 60 minutes walk/run-30 minutes lift/tone

Wed. - 60 minutes walk/run-30 minutes lift/tone 90 minutes YOGA

Thurs.- 60 minutes walk/run-30 minutes lift/tone

Fri.- 60 minutes walk/run-30 minutes lift/tone

Saturday - 60 minutes of lifting/toning. 60 minutes or more of cardio, usually hiking if the weather is good.

Sunday - Absolutley NOTHING...ya gota have one day off.

I do break up the 60 minutes of walk run during the week by doing 30 minutes in the morning and another 30 either at lunch or after work. I am not a gazell and it is very hard.. I hope that when I get to maintenance weight I can take this schedule down just a bit...but for right now...I need to work my you know what off...lol.

Hello!
Thanks for the reply! I think there is a Michigan, Minnesota thing going on in my life..so your note fit right in.Bad Grin

I have to work with the Superior National Forest alot right now in the Boundary Waters.

I am 47, about to turn 48 next month. I really don't want to be heavy going into my 50's so I decided to apply myself "one more time", and get the weight off.
It is so much harder now! I lost about 100 pounds in my 20's and kept it off until I got married and I am not blaming my wonderful husband, but it was a head thing for me.

I already have the exercise thing going...I just need to master the food issue, for life.

It is so inspirational to know my friends who have gone to school in the second half of their life...it is a huge accomplishment and something you should be very proud of doing.

I look forward to chatting with you on my journey!

New to WW... points help etc
I don't think you need to have all the books because like evelyn64 posted...all that stuff is online...or enough that you can make it work.

The real kicker for me is showing up at that weigh in every Tuesday and being honest with myself in front of others. It also puts added pressure on due to the fact that I grew up here and have know most of these folks all my life...no hiding anything Smile

But I think this site may be helpful that way...to keep ya honest.

Good for you for taking the step to good health.
