Grew up on a dairy farm, milking cows, starting at 4:30am and not finishing the day until 10:30 to 11:00 pm each day. Some days putting in as much as 16 plus hour days and all of this starting as a 9 year old, 365 days a year until I joined the Air Force and finally got to take it easy with only 12 hour days.

The Air Force changed my life. I met the love of my life (39 years ago) and we are still together now. Vicky is also an Air Force veteran.

It took 30 years to find out the great VA benefits that we share and are now making use of. The nice thing is we have a local VA Hospital and that means most of the classes and appointments we attend are local. Only a few appointments have to be at a larger hospital and for that the VA will provide or pay for transportation to where ever we have to go.

I want to thank Dr. Goldberger, a very special doctor that I met 30 years ago. He, now retired, was an old school doctor when it came to diets, weight lose, etc... I have gone back to following his advice (diet) and Vicky's encouragement that is making me very happy.

Looking to buddy up with someone that has a lot of weight to lose. I have joined weight watchers and
Hi Sandra,

My wife and I are both controlling our eating habit. Started 2 weeks ago. We have the benefit of both being Veterans. This means we are enrolled in the VA Weight management program. So far, Vic is down 10 lbs and I am down almost 20 lbs. I need to lose over 100 pounds and Vic is trying to lose about 70 lbs. Would be happy to help you out. We are working on a balanced weight management program. Balanced food. Exercise (for older folks), etc...

Alice,

Welcome. I hope you enjoy using FSecret and enjoy and learn from the members here.
I need to lose 100+ lbs and started back up last week. Already down about 17 lbs. Main thing is, eat a balanced diet as well as track what you eat. You would be surprised at what you eat and the junk that is in it (thank you modern food science). Also, always ask if you want ideas.

My wife Vicky and I had Manhatten steak tonight. Very tender with Potatoes and a Mixed vegetable for a side. Very filling even thou we only had about 2 oz of steak each.

Good luck.

Constipation issues
What I have done is add some mixed nuts to my diet. About and oz. That fixed up the constipation problem (from medications).

Jogging For Beginners: Shins Hurt
Years ago in the military that was a major problem. Shin splints were a killer. Now that I am walking again, I am having the same problem. To keep it undercontrol, my wife Vicky and I start out as a modest pace, work up to a good clip and then cool down. We do about 1/4 mile warm up, 1.25 mile at a good clip and then about 1/4 to 1/2 mile at a gradual pace to cool down. We walk for about 30 minutes 3 or 4 times a week. This week we purchase a recunant bike and a treadmill so we can continue our routine in the cold, wet north. In a few months the snow will hit and for about 3 months walking outside will not be fun.

We are trying to improve my severe cardiac problems. I hate emergency rooms. 3 time in the last year.

Hello!
Hello Lady, Welcome to one of the best tracking programs out there.

My wife, Vicky and I are both using it to help us control our diet and exercise. In two months we have lost almost 75 pounds between us. It is great. We only have 150 to go.

Feel free to click on our diets and journals to see what we are doing. If this is the first time you are dieting, then remember, it is not about losing weight, but getting into good eating and life style habits. Exercise (take a walk, brisk) about 30 minutes at least 4 or more times a week. Be honest and document all your caloric intake, and have fun.

If you can't have fun, they it will be a real drag.

One of the REWARDS for Vic and I, is when we lose 10 pounds (either one of us) we splurge by going off diet for 1 or two meals. Did that tonight and it is killing us. We both have upset stomachs and the runs. We are not looking forward to splurging again. It Hurts!

Have fun. If you would like, i buddy request your, if you would like to follow our journey and see how we are doing and the steps we are taking.
