April 11 2011 I weighed 201 pounds. I had no energy and was on the quick path to a heart attack medicated for high blood pressure and asthma

One year later, I am at 163 pounds. I bike ride. My blood pressure is way down. Medication is cut in half and and I haven't used a steroid inhaler for breathing in 9 months.

Between 2012 - 2013 I started to creep back up. Nothing dramatic, but it was a pound here and a pound there.

Then the hammer dropped. My company restructured my job. I was doing something wrong. I was up at 186 pounds again, confidence a bit rocked. What was I to do?

Decision time. Either I could wallow in self pity or take control back.

March 5. My journey re-starts. My goal is to lose 15 pounds in 6 weeks.

April 16. I reach that goal. But I am still soft. I need a new challenge. Stupid me, I signed up for Tough Mudder (www.toughmudder.com)

Time to start training.

May 20. I am working out 6x per week. Running about 15k per week and doing all sorts of exercises (pushups, chin-ups, sit-ups, squats).

Mental toughness mirrors physical toughness. I have a ways to go, but confident I will get there.

Milestone
Milestone Day.



This is two weeks consecutive on training program. I am running 3x per week, cardio and strength activities 2x per week. I hit 5k run this morning. Pace is consistent @ 6mph. Nothing great, but my first run was only 2.5k, so I have doubled the distance over the two weeks, maintained cadence/pace and I am not spent at the end of the run like I was the first couple. Definitely making progress.

Fitness routine
I have changed from what was before a pure diet to a more overall balanced routine. I do some level of workout 5 days a week (minimum 3 runs ~ 4-5k). I have added push ups and sit-ups for muscle toning. Now I bounce around 169 - 171 lbs consistently (15 lbs below my weigh-in on Mar 5 2014, 30 lbs below what I was in April 2011).

I have 2 goals.

1) to get off blood pressure meds permanently (dosage is already cut in half where I was in 2012)

2) Tough Mudder August 16 (www.toughmudder.com)

My progress
A good day today.

I am down nearly 17 pound. I am at target weight (170 lb) on a journey started March 5. This week I started wave 2, fitness level. I started jogging this week. The plan is 3 times per week. Nothing major to start with (3Km). I am doing strength training on the other days. The objective is to be ready for tough mudders in August (www.toughmudders.com)
