I am 51yr old widowed female. 5'7" tall. No children, sort of a work-aholic who has been trying to loose weight since March 2010 with very minor success.
At my annual check-up in March 2010 found that I had gained about 30 lbs in 2 years with no change in my diet. My doctor found that my TSH levels were elevated and it has been a struggle since to get my thyroid hormones under control. Still believe that my t-12 hormone level continues to be low, but am slowly feeling a bit better. I have managed to loose 20.5 lbs on a severely calorie restricted diet from March to December but still need to ramp up the weight loss. Calorie count per day is between 1200 and 1600 calories. I do exercize, though probably not at the level I should.
I am looking for advice from others who have thyroid problems to advise me as to what works! Naturopathic medicine is my thing, and I do not want to have surgery just to get the weight off. My knees are giving out on me, and I want to travel and really LIVE my life and not have the weight hold me down.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
