Basically I just love FOOOOOD... lotsa food... it's a focal point in my life. It always has been and always will be but now it's gonna be good foods in good quantities. I HATE running... "a man should not run 'less he's bein chased..." that's how I lived. Now I run, not fast but I run, daily. That's after really crunching both knees skydiving aboot 22 years ago, shooting 3 buckshot pellets into my left calf in 2011 followed by running a riding mower over my right calf last Fourth of July, I am running... Fish oil keeps the knees moving. I have learned things along the way... first I can state with a fair amount of certainty... getting shot is way overrated, specially in the movies. My traumatic injuries also taught me that dilaudid is an amazing ride... the buzz is way cleaner than beer and way less filling.... WAIT... THIS IS "POSED TO BE BIO STUFF....
Okay... I'm a guy, I'm 58... my hair was black... my favorite color is pork... cooking is one of my talents.
That's enough... ciao for now...

Sweeteners...
wow... could ya cite any studies... sucralose, dextrose and maltodextrin make up Splenda... the sucralose is derived from sucrose(table sugar). 3 hydroxyl ions are replaced with chlorine ions. The chlorine ions create a tighter chemical bond which makes it less metabolically active then sucrose. Less active but not inert and the dextrose and maltodextrin will affect glucose levels. http://www.tandfonline.com/doi/pdf/10.1080/10937404.2013.842523
is a link to a pretty good study on sucralose... it does state that heating sucralose at 356 degrees F for an hour will hydrolyze it and the resulting compounds can be harmful... they do not say what quantity would need to be used to present any realistic risk. It does also cite that sucralose under the right conditions...like low ph levels can suppress intestinal flora. On the other hand aspartame metabolizes directly to methanol and several other known hazardous compounds... I should not have mentioned my predilection towards Splenda...okay I should not have quoted your post either.. my rant was mainly aimed at driving peeps to be responsible for their own mistakes... to quote a once great scifi mystery series..."THE TRUTH IS OUT THERE"... and point of fact... VODKA is a health food....

Sweeteners...
WOW.... I am truly amazed at the general lack of factual data posted here... and there are many "FACTS" posted here. "Splenda, same garbage as aspartame...." Really? You're sitting at a computer... you are on the INTERNET... do the research, look'em up... LOOK EVERYTHING UP. Okay some of the "FACTS" have to be vetted... not everything is easy. Suck it up and do the footwork. I salute "gnat824"... good post. Know also that nutrition IS A LITTLE DIFFERENT FOR EVERYONE. You have to find what works for you... Splenda works me but then... so does Vodka...that and a fairly universal theme... lower caloric intake and pump up output... Bon Chance all...

Need Help
YOU HAVE GOT TO RECORD EVERYTHING... and record both the intake and the excercise. It works... I've lost 70lbs in 4 months and it's all old school, diet(calorie counting) and exercise... stay the course... as far as help goes... this is as good as it gets. Unless you wants I should kick you in the goodies when you reach for one more samosa...

Scales
I took my scale to the local thrift store... now I use my Wii with the WiiFit kit. The Wii reports real consistent numbers... the old scale was electronic but if I weighed 3 times... I'd get 5 different numbers...

Booze - To count or not to count?
AHHHHH YEAHHHH.... a calorie is a calorie is a calorie... count em all.. let God sort'em out...

Really I counts em all... vodka... Arrogant Bastard dark ale or even that 4oz of white wine... and I restrict my intake. If you're a beer drinker, good luck. I like craft beers and I usually get the 22oz bottles. I got a good stopper that locks in the top of a glass bottle and then I can pop one and pour 4-6oz for the night... then no more than once a week I'll allow myself 1, yes one, 12 to 22oz beer. I don't have alcohol every night either... not yet... the avatar image is what I'll be whence I grow up... Smile... good luck
