I'm 49 years old & married with 2 grown kids. I've been overweight for at least 20 years. My highest weight was 275. I'm ready to get rid of this goo on my body and get back to living. I use to enjoy outdoor recreation - walking, hiking & bike riding and I am trying to get back to it.

are you a runner or a walker?
I did the couch to 5k running program to get started. I have run a few 5k's. I'm not sure if I like running itself or maybe the fact that I can actually run. Either way, I somehow enjoy it.

Running with a friend. The excitement of a race. They help make it enjoyable.

If you find you don't like running... keep walking. Whatever you do, has be remain enjoyable.

Weight changes while taking prednisone?
I was on 6 days of treatment - ended Wednesday. I lost weight. I haven't been able to exercise but i did change my diet to exclude grains and increase water. So I don't know if it was the steroids or the diet. I'm hoping the diet Smile

Why do people drink low fat/skim milk?
I was raised on whole milk but switched to skim in my 20's. It took some getting use to. Now I don't drink any cows milk.

I see nothing wrong with whole milk and think fat has gotten a bad rap. To make skim, they remove all the fat and vitamins. Then they fortify the skim with vitamins. I wonder though, since Vitamins A, E and D are fat soluble, how much would you really absorb if not taking in any fat with your meal or drink? I say drink what you like!

Anyone eat before a workout?
@mammasix - This was my first day. I was able to stay in form on most everything. Two of the exercises were new to me so it took one round to get the hang of it. She kept saying "great job. good form. excellent" so I don't think she thought I was lacking. Not sure how I compared to the others though because I wasn't watching them. Hmm. I'll just go by how I feel when I wake up. If I'm hungry, I like your advice about nuts.

@tweey I took water with me but I always always always forget about hydration prior to exercise. Thanks for the reminder! I may have to add an alarm to my cell as a prompt to get me to drink.

Anyone eat before a workout?
Today, at 5am, I did a bootcamp workout. I'll be doing this MWF through March.

Midway through, at our water break, the instructor asked me if I had eaten. I told her that I barely had time to wake up much less eat. She gave me 2 discs (sugar I guess, i don't even know) and told me that I needed to eat something before class or I would vomit. Well, I felt fine before but after eating the disc is when I felt nauseous. (I didn't eat the 2nd one) I've never eaten before I've worked out and am not sure if I should start. I've always thought you burn more fat if you don't eat prior to working out.
