Whey Protein - Any good for losing Fat?
eKatherine any whey based product is unlikely completely lactose free. You can add a few drops of lactase to it and leave overnight, or you can buy vegan protein isolate powders extracted from Peas, Rice and Hemp.
Of course you can eat meat to get protein, or egg whites, nonfat milk, quinoa, beans and legumes. These digest more slowly and release the protein slowly, which is good, but they also are generally higher in carbs and with meat often higher in fat. It just depends how strict you want your diet to be.

Whey Protein - Any good for losing Fat?
Yes a good quality whey protein powder is good for a low carb diet. For example check the macros of this powder
http://www.maxiraw.com/wpiintensitynatural
Per Serve: Protein 22.4g Carbohydrate 0.5g, Fat 0.25g
A constant (6 meals a day 3 of which could be shakes) protein intake is good to maintain lean mass (muscle) when loosing fat, and good to gain muscle mass when not on calorie deficit.
There is also a type of powder called a "Mass gainer" These are pointless you may as well eat your calories not drink them like Diablo360x points out. Avoid Mass gainers and High carb protein powders look for Whey Protein Isolate, or Whey Protein Concentrate. Also Don't bother with flavored protein powder, get natural powder and add flavdrops
http://www.myprotein.com/uk/cats/flavouring-systems/liquid-flavouring
then you don't get stuck with the same flavour every day.
