I deleted my original bio to make room for this update. I am a 56-year-old, asthmatic, ex-smoker, post-menapausal, carb lover who hates to exercise and loves to sleep. For most of my adult life I’ve been over weight.

That exercise thing I tried last year didn’t pan out. No surprise. I do have a task at work that keeps me moving for about 2 hours every week and I shop where I have to pack my own groceries. Add that to hauling them into the house I and it's enough to qualify as a "work out". As long as I keep moving and doing something every week I seem to be doing OK. You won’t be seeing me at the gym anytime soon.

I consider my daily RDI of calories as currency to spend during the day. My goal is to go to bed at the end of the day without feeling hungry and without running out of money.

So I hope this is encouraging to anyone who reads this. It’s not a fad – just consume fewer calories than you need each day and you will lose the weight. Find the foods with the most return on your investment. Feel free to look at my food diary. You’ll see I’m not doing anything drastic and I am not deprived.

My goal weight is in sight. I’ll have to give some thought to my maintenance plan. I don’t want to get bored. I wonder what it will be like not having that next goal to meet. That’s a little scary. I don’t want to fall back into bad habits.

I keep them in the freeezer and defrost a couple whenever we have burgers. I have one burger for dinner and another for lunch the next day.

Artificial Sweeteners and Cravings
I just want to say that my post wasn't intended to start the artificial sweetener debate. I don't have sweet cravings because I use Sweet N Low. SuberWoman, try switching to just Half & Half and no sweetener. It may take some getting used to but the H&H gives coffee more richness. A few tablespoons per day will not blow your plan.I prefer my coffe this way. I can't stand skim milk in my coffee. Bleh. May as well leave it out, all together.

Snack - fits with calorie counters and Atkins too.
Here is my high-protein, low-cal/fat snack that I've found really curbs my hungries:
Roll 1 ounce(slice) of 97% fat free ham (Like Walmart's Great Value Cooked, Sliced Ham) around one stick of light string cheese.

Great little snack that I've come to rely on when I'm hungry and dinner isn't quite ready.

The ham is 30 calories and the cheese is 50. Smile

Artificial Sweeteners and Cravings
Equal sweetener sabotaged my progress. I couldn't figure out why I was craving food constantly. I thought the low-dose steroid was the culprit then I realized it all started when I switched from Sweet 'N Low to Equal in my daily iced tea. Since I'm out of Sweet N Low I borrowed my DH's Splenda for a few days and, tada! No more cravings.

This isn't intended to discredit the Equal brand. I, in fact, prefer the taste of Equal over the others. I am aware of the warnings concerning artificial sweeteners. That’s not what this post is about, either.

I’m only making an observation that may help others who are dealing with constant cravings. If you are consuming an artificial sweetener, try changing it to something else and see if it helps.
