Approaching 50th birthday. At 46, I began to notice that holiday pounds easily lost were not coming off upon resuming normal (for me) eating. Since then, it seems, everything I eat adds weight, and I've become reclusive because all my clothes are uncomfortable. I wear scrubs to work, and lately even those fit too closely. The straw that broke the camel's back and made me look into serious weight monitoring, was the observation that my ankles, the skinniest part of me, were swollen at the end of the day. I feel like a water balloon. I am now worried about my health.
I've heard about age-related weight gain and stress-related weight gain.
I was accepting these and not liking it, but feeling helpless to fight them. You can't change your stress level or your age, certainly. I have been excercising intermittently, and changing some bad nutritional habits, like skipping breakfast and eating out at lunch,but the weight gain marches on.
Now, at the recommendation of someone who looks great, I am going to try this. I need to do something for my health. I addition to the swollen ankles (my blood pressure is normal), I had gestational diabetes years ago, and was told I was predisposed to Type II diatbetes. Age, family history, and obesity are the risk factors, and I need to prevent the obesity.
