Growing up, the skinniest and fittest I had been was when we didn't have a car and we had to walk everywhere. This was back in the 80s. Going into my teenage years I started to chunk up slowly. The highest I ever got in my life was 174 after I had my first child. I then started Weight Watchers and it marked the beginning of a healthier relationship with food. I lost most of my weight down to the 130s. Over the past 10 years I have maintained that but I never really reached my personal goal of 115 for my 5'0" body. Now I resolve to reach my personal goal.

I believe that in order to make this permanent I have to create some lifestyle changes, I have to learn healthier habits with food and find a physical activity that I will enjoy enough to maintain over my lifetime. I realize that my body needs physical activity as much as it needs healthy food to function. The best that I can do for my overall well-being is to give it the exercise and right amounts of food it needs.

I'm also from a Caribbean background (Puerto Rico) so I love my rice, beans, empanadillas, sancocho and my Sofrito(the magical homemade seasoning that makes all food taste like a million bucks!). On my journey I don't limit any foods. I eat all my favorite foods and still lose weight. You will notice "rice" almost every day in my journal! :) The key my friends, will be and always has been ....PORTIONS! ;)

I'm here to make this happen and to share with others my experiences in this journey.

I gladly accept buddies so that we can all support each other.

7/2011: I'm 12 weeks pregnant at the moment so I'm really not trying to lose weight right now. I still want to keep track of my foods. Now that I'm feeling better from the morning sickness and all.

TIPS - Found on Pinterest.. AMAZING..
Snack on Celery every hour? Never heard that one before but there is no way I could do that without some kind of sauce. :S

Has anyone actually tried the celery tip?

Bella: what isn't "livable for me"??

Both these statements make me curious. For me it's because sugar/carbs set off horrible cravings, plus they bring my IBS/GERD back to life. On Atkins I have none of those problems.

I'm not trying to pick on anyone, or change your minds about anything, I'm just curious about your statements. Very Happy

Well for me Atkins is drastic. I'm used to having rice and beans everyday (with meat of course).

At the moment I'm experimenting with the Insulin Resistance Diet.

I've began to notice the thing about cravings and such. Ezekiel is a much superior bread than white bread. It all started with that because I began feeling satiated and no cravings whenever I had this bread with cheese and ham. Net carbs for this bread is 12 I believe.

To me livable is, what do I do when I'm at a event? When I don't have control over what's served? In my home I can control what I eat but out and about and especially at events it would be VERY difficult. For me anyway, I need a plan that I can control in all situations. Low carb, high fat is beginning to appeal to me but I don't think I can limit my carbs down to the Atkins level. I can do say, 30 net carbs in a meal linked and balanced with 15 g of protein and adding a fat (coconut oil, avocado, butter).

Diet Soda - HELP
If you go to Walmart you will find a generic brand of crystal light called great value. It is cheaper than crystal light and if you get the naturally sweetened variety calories are minimal. They sweeten it with small amounts of sugar and stevia. That's my alternative to diet soda. I carry those packets with me in my purse. Otherwise if available I'll have vitaminwater zero..also naturally sweetened.

Just getting started and in need of support and tips
The problem with WW is that since they began their PointsPlus program not everyone is having success with it. A lot of people have been doing Momentum on their own which is the points program used before PointsPlus. IMHO it was a better program and it works much faster than PointsPlus. I couldn't do Atkins long term. It is not livable for me. Best wishes on your weight loss journey!
