Losing weight with hypothyroidism is no picnic (pun intended). Organic(if possible), fresh fruits and vegetables, low- or no-fat diary products, lean meats are the order of the day. Exercise is a necessity, not an option. Recent exploration of different kinds of foods and their preparation and reveal that a vegan or raw diet seem ready-made to address the issue of getting the most nutritious bang for your buck (or calories, as the case may be). This topic is for adding your experiences, recipes and questions about how a raw or vegan diet can help reduce the side effects of hypothyroidism.

Looking into what is meant by "Goitrogenic" foods, what foods qualify, and how I'm going to be able to eat them anyway because, of course, they are my favorite foods!

Here's one good link that explains what they are: http://www.whfoods.com/genpage.php?tname=george&dbid=47.

Now I need to know if preparing them differently or eating them at different times of the day...or something!...will make it so it's okay to eat them. Or, at least some of them.

It is doable. As long as it is under control you should be able to lose weight otherwise the medication might be off and levels rechecked. I've been losing weight so far. I would lose faster if I would be doing exercise.

Doing exercise is really, really difficult if your levels are off. Ask me how I know. Wink I'm going to keep doing a little every day and not kick myself when I can't because I know that does not help. You've already lost 10 lbs! That must feel really good. Smile
