New member, and still very new to fatsecret as well. My diet actually probably is closer to low carb high fat than it is to low carb high protein, but I'm afraid that if I switch over my diet on the site, it'll 'restart' me, or force me to re-enter everything as historical data, and I'd rather not go through the effort.
As noted in my profile, I packed on an extra 135 lbs over the course of a few decades, and after having been hovering around 300 for the last few years, wound up in a pathophysiology course that showed me all of the different kinds of ways in which I was damaging my body by being 'super-obese'.
So I weighed in at the end of June, and began exploiting my metabolic pathways to drop weight with minimal exercise, since I'm also having a problem with tendinosis in one of my achilles tendons at the moment.
I really haven't read any of the low carb diet books, just the info in a couple of textbooks and journal articles on the way in which things are metabolized, but it seems to be working pretty well. I went a bit too low carb, perhaps, as I didn't at first realize that if I dropped too low, I'd start breaking down muscle tissue for alanine, so now I'm trying to bump things up to around 10g carbs a day.
Anyways, hope to see lots of weight loss going on for everyone.
Yours,
Dr Erich Bloodaxe RN
(While I am an RN, I am NOT a nutritional specialist, and the information I'm basing my own diet and any suggestions on is from a pathophysiology class in which the mechanisms of cell action, the endocrine system, and renal and gastrointestinal systems were explained. Thus nothing I say is offered as medical advice, but simply as one dieter to another.)
