So I am new to jogging and running for long periods again. Even brisk walking for that matter. I have been trying to do this everyday but I am wondering do I occasionally need to have a rest day for my legs sake? If so how often?

You should absolutely rest your legs, I started off slow then went to every day running and my knees definitely let me know I can't, but even if you are not feeling the pain you should give yourself at least 2 days off a week so that you don't burn out your muscles or your motivation.

Any advice on what to do on those days? I exercise at home and don't want to buy a bunch of weight

Hey there, ok so if u just started i is NOT recommended to run evr day and exhaust urself. Ur body needs rest, esp if u r not used to it. U cud injure urself easily if u keep running like a maniac like that, I'm basing that on my own experience. I suggest u run 3 times a week, and on the other days just do free weights at home, get 8-10# dumbbells to begin with and do 3 sets of 1-12 reps. Try to do weights 3 times a week for now in between running days or as another option u cud weights train in am and then go for ur run if u r a tough cookie and can handle it u know Wink As far as best time for fat loss, there is no such a thing. Just run whenever, make sure u had carbs an yr or 2 before u go tho. So u have fuel to keep going. Hope it helps. Let me know if u have any other questions Wink

There are plenty of training workouts you can do without any equipment. Look for some videos that fit your needs or if you have an Xbox and a Kinect just play that for an hour. I actually got the kinect to use it for working out, there are games specifically for working out but most games will give you a good sweat after 15 mins. As for the time. I am not sure how accurate it is but I read somewhere that working out in the morning gets your metabolism going early on and therefore is better.

Ya we have considered get the kinect for our xbox. I am interested in the dance game because it is something I can do for long periods while having fun. What kind of games do you have that you exercise too and enjoy? Also I don't really get worn out by jogging or brisk walking every day. Its actually reverse. When I don't exercise I feel tired by midday. Do you guys have this problem too? Also I think having five kids is why I don't tire easily even though I haven't been using the treadmill too long.

I got dance central 2, the game even has an exercise mode and it measures calories you worked out, plus you can do it with another person at the same time so it's fun and actually functional. I wear a body media device and I was really surprised to see that I was burning more calories dancing in the game than on an elliptical!
