Starting weight 170 lbs 40% body fat. Lost 7 lbs now 37.1% body fat.
I started the ideal protein diet 4 weeks ago and have followed the diet slavishly, even eliminating restricted vegetables from my diet completely. Over the past two weeks I have lost 1.2 lbs and 0.4 lbs. I entered my food intake into fatsecret and was shocked to discover I have been consuming less that 700 calories a day. Such a low calorie intake and little weight loss have me a little worried that I am messing with my metabolism and causing potential problems down the road. I have since increased my calorie intake to 900-1,000 calories.
Does anyone have any advice, wisdom to share?

It is my experience you need to eat more calories. Certainly in the 1200 range. My body goes into starvation mode at 700 calories.

Hi, just wondering what you are doing to increase the calories? Did you add the restricted veggies and do you have a restricted snack each day? I see so many people cutting those out and I think they are doing more harm than good. Also if you get in all of the 8 ounces of protein at the "regular" meal that should up the calories.

I too, was surprised at how few calories I was consumming. I believe that I am entering in everything in that I ate or drank. I am 12 days on the diet and have lost 7.8 lbs. and I about 5" all around. I am having trouble with hunger, but I am trying to space my veggies out during the day. It is nice to have a group that is following the same plan as me. Does anyone else have this problem? I haven't cheated at all!

I'm beginning my 4th week. I've lost 9 lbs. and several inches. And yes, I'm hungry a lot too but it's getting better! I eat between 650 & 950 calories per day. Yes, I've cheated twice. Once accidentally and once on my birthday I bought a Cadbury chocolate filled egg. I bit into it, was grossed out by how sweet it is and threw the other half away. That actually made me feel great! To help with hunger I drink hot or iced tea w/lemon juice and a 0 calorie sweetener. It does help. So does dill pickles! I'm disabled and not very active but I am up to walking 2 miles a day. I really need to talk myself into doing tummy crunches. Hopefully I can get back off the floor once I've laid down on it. LOL Are there recipes on this site?

The added calories was from veggies & protein. My counselor said I was eating too many carbs so I cut back on the veggies & salad so now I'm back down to around 750 per day. I'm not losing much and am very fatigued this week. My husband says I'm not eating enough. Today I did a no/no. I ate 2 oz. of chicken breast w/my protein meal and felt so much better. So I've got to figure out what to do. High carbs or supplement with more protein? And if more protein how do I do that? I've shrunk my stomach so much that I can't eat more than 4 oz at a time without feeling sick. I just finished my 5th week and have at least another 8 months to go. This yo yo'ing isn't doing much for my confidence!

Congrats on your already great success! Don 't forget, you should be starting your cleanse about now (after first month-- that's a milestone I'm excited about hitting). My doctor/coach says I should have 1/2 my body weight in grams of protein, which for me right now equals 100 grams (for you is 80+). Not having enough protein & too few calories will slow your metabolism & cause you to lose muscle! With my docs ok, I've added an IP/day, though a very low carb one, like the fruit flavored drinks. Also, don't forget your oil & milk--while small amounts, that 's over 200 calories & essential fats!!

I wouldn't be adding calories. I've been on this program 3 times, and have had a few women at work on it. It starts slow, then all of a sudden a ton of weight will drop off. Just stick with it. Maybe add more protein instead of vegetables since they contain carbs.

Dont add extra calories! The goal of this weight loss program is to have high quality proteins with low glycemic carbs (they turn to sugar very slowly) so that your body goes into ketosis. This allows your body to not store glycogen (sugar based energy source), since you have eaten lots of good quality proteins, your body skips over burning proteins for energy, and it burns fats instead! Fat is HARD....Fit is HARD...Which HARD do you choose???
