Well, first, everyone is different, finding your daily recommended calorie intake is the first step. People usually say 2,000 calories is the average, though it could be higher or lower depending on your current weight, activity level, height, etc. From there, your diet plan could restrict carbs, or certain carbs (like white flour), or just carbs for a certain time. Let's say you're just looking to eat healthier though and you're wondering what is a good amount of carbohydrates to aim for.
I've read, and this may be wrong but it works for me, for a 2,000 calorie diet in order to maintain weight, you should have 50% of your calorie intake from carbohydrates, 30-35% fat and 15-20% protein. To lose the weight the calorie ratio should be 50% carbs 20-25% fat and 25-30% protein. To figure that out there's some easy math involved.
For carbs: 2000 * .5 (that's 50%) = 1000 1g of carbs = 4 calories so 1000/4= 250g To maintain/lose weight in a 2,000 calorie diet 250g of carbohydrates is recommended.
For those curious on the other parts, 1 gram of protien also equals four calories, and 1 gram of fat equals nine calories.

If you google daily recommended calorie intake (or any other kind of recomendations like fat, protien, fiber, etc) you will find sites where you put in your weight, age and height and it will give you the info. For me it says 281-305 g for carbs. I am not getting close to it but I have my recomended amounts posted on my computer so that I can see where I need to improve. Good luck!!! Proud mom of 3 under 4. Ready to get my body back.
